Today is London day, we ended up on the coach with 13 of us, but most of us must have been tired from the Birmingham show, because it was very quite, more quite than I expected it to be. I was still recovering from my cold, and minding my own business. The journals were shared and people wrote/read in it. With a little delay we arrived at Victoria coach station, and we had to take the underground from there to Kings Cross. We were not the only travellers going that direction, so we all hooked up. After a short stop for a Money box for Twilla, the travel continued. We arrived at our hotel a little before 2 and a quick shower was a must. Of course our hotel room did not have warm water at ... read more

Good old London. I had two more days left to stay in the UK, unfortunately without getting to meet some of the friends I wanted to meet. However, one of my work colleages from Australia, named Hayden, was visiting London during this time, and I had made arrangements to hang out with him and show him around. We met up at his hotel and I took him on the tubes. While we were trying to purchase an Oyster Card from the machines, a lady who had no need for her daily travel card offered it to us. Well, that works. It's Hayden's lucky day. We first headed to Piccadilly Circus, where we started our little tour, then we headed on to Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. These were the main two sites we spent time at ... read more

I woke up in the early hours of today morning at the ring of my cell phone which I had forgot to put on silent. He was oblivious yet to the fact of the hassles I had faced after leaving him and called me up to explore. He wanted to go to the London Dungeons first. It was around 8, and I didn’t want to waste time too sleeping so replied in affirmative and by 10 was there. I had gone to scary houses before, but this one seemed a bit different at first. For starters, I was scared the life out of me when we were led into a maze with mirrors everywhere and saw a skeleton shaking metal gate all of a sudden. Yet after some time things got a bit boring. I saw ... read more

Today I went on a walking tour in the East End of London which is in much more poverty than the area I live in which is Chelsea which is the 'poshest' place of London. I got off on the Liverpool Street Station which has a bit of history itself. During the second World War Nicholas Winton organized the rescue of 669 mostly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia to the UK and there were families awaiting at that station to take those children to their homes. He wasn't recognized for his bravery though until 1998 by the Czech president and was knighted in 2002 he was knighted. Other memorable places we stopped at was the Spitafields Markets and how its become more modern because it's covered where before it used to be home with plenty of street ... read more

The monotonous routine was making me bored and reducing my productivity. My boss had started yelling at me a bit too often. So one fine Monday morning, I decided there was a limit and applied for a 12 day holiday from work. Being a vacation after a long time in my work life, I wanted to spend it on a place of adventure. After some consideration, I zeroed in upon England. All formalities proceeded and done, I was soon on my way to England, the place of the knights! Its now one day down over here, and the time is around 4 in the morning. I couldn’t sleep today night and am damn tired, but an experience it was indeed to share with all when the memories still are fresh! I don’t know what lies in ... read more

Alright, I guess I should play catch-up for the last few days. I'd like to update every day, but by the time we get back to the hotel, I'm usually exhausted and ready for bed. We travelled by Virgin Train to London on Friday. I had heard Virgin trains were fantastic, but unfortunately I wasn't overly impressed. I don't really have a complaint, it was fine, but I was under the impression there was free wi-fi which there wasn't. My Kindle wasn't cooperating (a dead battery as it turned out), so I would have liked wi-fi to keep myself occupied. Unfortunately, the wifi wasn't available at all, even paid. After our arrival, we walked over to Buckingham Palace and around some of it. It's a lot bigger then I had imagined. We saw the Wellington monument ... read more

A place of death, torture, captivity, jewels, and beasts is what you will find at the Tower of London. This is where people who were elite or royalty were beheaded or held prisoner. There are actually 21 different towers on the site called the Tower of London. It's mostly known for the beheading's that take place there. William Hastings, Anne Boleyn, Jane Boleyn, and Lady Jane Grey are some of the more famous beheading's that took place there. When someone was being beheaded it didn't always go according to plan. Sometimes it would take several swings to completely take the head off and in between hacks the executed would still be alive. This is why Queen Anne Boleyn wanted to be beheaded with a sword and it was said that all it took was once and ... read more

Media telesales... What is the first thing that springs to mind? A busy sales office, a large room filled with stereotypical, headphone clad people reading off scripts in a quite nonchalant manner. Well, this was my impression of what it would be however I was pleasantly and in some ways unpleasantly surprised, that it wasn't. I found myself working for a paper who was recruiting for telesales people to help sell advertising space. At first I thought, I've heard some awful things about telesales, the stress, the unfriendly customers (due to cold calling which, for those unfamiliar with the jargon, is simply calling people at all times in the day without any prior consent and then trying to sell something to someone who is not expecting, looking for it nor is happy about you calling - ... read more

The start of my gap year starts with work and so my first post would be related to that I guess. When raising money to go abroad the easiest way (and possibly the least exciting) is to work. Well, since this summer I have already exhausted a job. It was a summer stint working at an amusement park as an attractions front liner. Whilst some would think this is something fun, it isn't all its cracked up to be. There are of course the fun moments spent with guests, riling up kids over announcement systems and generally chatting and having fun with staff as a welcome part of the job, though there are also many unpleasant things that come with the territory. One thing I have found from this is that guests, in particular -parents, can ... read more
