I am here in London and it is just as expensive and smelly as I remember and yet I always have a good time when I am here!! Anyways, I went to the big tour leader interview yesterday and it was pretty stressful - lots of role play etc and I have no idea how it went. I can't tell if it went well or absoltely horribly .. . hopefully they'll give me a call to let me know that the job is mine!! I'm heading back to York tonight and it's back to reality --- gotta find a job somewhere in the countryside to save tons of money and then who knows? I have a few leads but am very tight on the cash front so hopefully I'll be able to get something quickly and ... read more

Well, I made my flight on time.  They have super cheap flights within Europe here but you have to be up at the right time to get them.  My flight took off at 6:15 and I was in Rome by 10:00.  Today is the day I meet up with the rest of the class so it will be nice to see a freindly face for a change - little did I know some of those faces would not be friendly.  The cab driver got a very big tip.  7.00 €.  He suddenly did not understand english when I got out of the cab.  It is very itimidating knowing you are in a country where you do not speak the langauge.  But I met up with everyone.  In an hours time we meet up with everyone at ... read more

Hi All, Well the title for today came from one of the nice people in Westminster Abbey. But before I get to that here is what I did today. I rook my stuff (big giant backpack - 6800 cubic inches not including the baby one that zips on - to Victoria Bus Station. It was really not so bad, once you get the waiste buckle done you are all good. 10:30 in the evening did not come fast enough. It felt like forever. But it did come and then the night, the long long night bus ride to Edinbough. The smelly drunk behind me - you know every drunck has that stale alcohol oder to them that gets worse as the night goes on. You pray he quites talking so his foul order he calls breath ... read more

Hi All, Another day .... Finished the last of the Original Bus Tour. The red line, got better pics less people in the way. One good thing about digital is that you can take as many pics are you like and do not have to worry about developing them. I am getting better about using the digital camera. It has weakness, but strengths far out weigh any most of the weaknesses. I did see Tate Modern, loved it. I liked some better than others. I wanted to see the Dali specific exhibition at another museum but they wanted too much. I will try to get pics up tomorrow. The exhibit in the main space was phenomenal. It really mixed your senses up to standing in them middle of tha... read more

Hi All, Well, I guess I will start by an explanation of MIND THE GAP - gotta find a T-shirt with that. I bought a tube pass, so I could save a little time on the feet. As a train is approaching you hear over the speakers, mind the gap. They have such formal, but cute, sayings for things over here. Mind the Gap (watch the space or something like that). Take away = to go, learned this one at Starbucks - Carmel Marchiato's are almost universal. Much stronger over here - not so sugary - I like them much better. Dad would even get used to the fufu drinks!! Yea before I forget QUE = line - gotta love it. On Monday not much luck with site seeing - just kind of wonder aimlessly around ... read more

HI all, Well to get here was a task in itself, United screwed up a group booking earlier in the day and tried to fix it throughout. Which landed me on a flight to Amsterdam. Which was not so bad - got bumped up to first class for the longest leg of the trip. They have excellent service - now need to meet Mr. RICH so I can fly that way to Europe all the time ... lol. But was smacked back into reality on the way to London, flew BMI, which is an economy line, in very cramped quarters. But it was only a 50 minute flight. Because of the mix up with my flight my bagage did not make either connection. And it got here six hours after I did, but they could not ... read more

London, UK. One of the largest and most famous cities in Europe. More tourist attractions and sights in one concentrated area than most other places. Enough to create memories for a lifetime for the average person. My first visit left one single impression. Ok, I was six, not an age when you absorb and appreciate the might of a world city. So, what out of all these sites caught my attention to the extent that it left an unerasable memory? A safe bet would be being in the crowd of an Arsenal-Tottenham derby at Highbury. The derby of derbys in the world of soccer; the sport that I eat, breathe and live. Nope. Maybe Madame Thoussauds wax cabinet, already at the time an impressive collection of wax dolls? Nope. What then of the impressive constructions of ... read more

The Generator youth hostel is a wonderful establishment. Dirt cheap and safe accommodation in central London. With a late night bar. Generous prices in the bar, gaming activities, big screen TV, and pool tables. What else is do you need? This bar naturally attracts the better part of the clientele visiting the hostel. Would almost be a crime not to honor its activities with a couple of beers. The crowd is split up into the groups in which they arrived. We have the Scandinavian guys joining in on the trivia games. We have the American high school kids chatting around the table. We have the gang playing a game of pool. We have the group of French high school kids drinking and smoking. We have the more quiet crowd chatting over a late bite to eat ... read more

Small digression from postings about Toronto - when I travelled more to Europe one thing that struck me was all the references to Hemmingway - where he slept, ate and wrote etc. One such location was the Dorchester hotel on Park Lane, NE side of High Park. There is this bookstore on the north side of Cambridge Circus I always go to when I was in London - black and red interior. Was going to Madrid that weekend so was reading about Hemmingway (was into bullfights and much of his writing is about Spain) and they detailed some of his stays in London. One hotel he stayed in was the Dorchester. Decided I would go there for a beverage so took the tube I beleive it was Elephant and Castle stop and walked south. Quite a ... read more

I have no idea what I wrote last night, I was delirious from lack of sleep! To finish off last night, I went back to my room to nap for an hour, then made my way to a pub for a quick bite. I looked for a traditional pub, but this area is so touristy, that it was tough. I finally found one about half a mile away. Had a chicken breast grilled with bacon and cheese, some clearly canned peas, and fries (chips) . . . a pint of Guiness and I was off to "Stones in His Pockets." It was a silly story, but the two actors we good. I tried to get tickets to "Mouse Trap" "A Mid Summer night's dream," or "Edmund" tonight, but they were all sold out. There aren't any ... read more
