Is it any wonder why this is my fav
You can never use too much glass in desgin ... lol Hi All,
Well, I guess I will start by an explanation of
MIND THE GAP - gotta find a T-shirt with that. I bought a tube pass, so I could save a little time on the feet. As a train is approaching you hear over the speakers, mind the gap. They have such formal, but cute, sayings for things over here. Mind the Gap (watch the space or something like that). Take away = to go, learned this one at Starbucks - Carmel Marchiato's are almost universal. Much stronger over here - not so sugary - I like them much better. Dad would even get used to the fufu drinks!! Yea before I forget QUE = line - gotta love it.
On Monday not much luck with site seeing - just kind of wonder aimlessly around which is fun in itself. Was good though and tried to see St Paul's first thing in the morning and it was closed for a memorial. Some of the people killed in Madrid were English, so this could have been the cause. I decided to come back another day. Then I made
Another Glass Building
This I believe is the New Parliment building, but do not quote me on that one. I know it is a goverment building. Where did ours forget to find designers ...lol my way over to Leicester Square, wondered around to Trafalgar Sq. Both are touristy, lots of little shops Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream store - yes I did sample BELGUIM CHOCOLATE.
I also decided to try a place recommended to me by my teacher, Wagamama's (Brandi - go here you will love it. It is like a chain that is over here but do not let that stop you ... lol) It is an Asian noodle place. I had chicken chilly roman, really really good. Just a note, anything with broth and chopsticks is going to be a whole lot of mess, I will not describe to you what the front of my shirt
looked like (Dad I have your gene) but you get the picture. Excellent place to eat. I will probably find my way back there, I am on the look for Fish and Chips - got to find that somewhere here. A good place. So I will ask at the desk tonight. But tonight is St Patty's day. They are having trips up to Ireland at the Hostel. Maybe if I know I might have booked one.

A Closer Look
Nice detail!!! style="MARGIN-LEFT: 3.75pt; MARGIN-RIGHT: 3.75pt"]
On to Tues, Yes I did make it St Paul's. I will not tell you that I got picks from there (you are not allowed) guess they should at least post a sign saying so. Or maybe they did and I just did not see it. Saw the crypt and went into the dome, only allowed to go as far as the Stone level (one shy of the top of the dome). They do have benched at intervals this is a godsend. I used them. It is 523 steps to the top; they closed the very top due to wind. It was quite windy yesterday. So I was let of easy. Got some beautiful pictures out over the city. It just amazes me - history class doesn’t do these place justice. The detail that goes into the mosaics on the ceilings and the richness of the materials used is just not something you can capture in a picture. I tried - took one illegal pic of the interior (before I knew they were illegal). It is one massive building. The sculptures they had around the wall of the nave and the crypt are
incredible. To think people did this all by hand so many years ago.
Then I decided to go give my poor feet a rest ...
http://www.theoriginaltour.com/ The really cool open top
double decker red buses that shuttle people around. Yea I learned a lot. Dad did ya know the HoChimMin was a pastry chef here before he went on to dictate. Guess he always had a few issues he needed to work out. We saw the bakery he worked in. So many interesting tid bits you would never find out if you had tried to do it all on your own.
They throw in a free river cruise which I went on Tues, beautiful views of the city. Got pics, but the computers at this hostel are a little older and will not read / write my pics to CD. So I will post some pics a little later.
I am trying to find out what one building is that is truly my favourite here; I have not seen it in any magazine yet. I will get it on this page as soon as I can. Yes it is glass encased.
Well today is another full day -
Finish my Red Bus tour (one route left) Make my way over to the Tate Modern (free), there is an special exhibit of Dali right beside the London Eye, will try to squeeze that in. Have a ride on the London Eye @ 6:30 - sunset. Should be breath taking. Then I will make my way over to the British Museum to see the frieze from the Parthenon, under lit in the evening. Very dramatic or so I am told.
I will check in later...
