I received an email from a student at OCU asking me all kinds of questions about studying abroad in the UK and the two schools in particular. I figured my email back could be useful to other people, or at least just be good reading material. I'll post my lengthy response here. "Hey! I think it's a great idea to study abroad, especially here. I am currently trying to figure out how I can stay here forever and never have to leave so you should definitely come! As far as the two schools go, it really depends on what you're looking for. My favorite by far has been LAMDA and I will cry my eyes out when the semester is over. Basically, the two schools can be summarized as thus: Edge Hill: pros: cheaper than OCU ... read more

I am about to complete my first week living in London and attending LAMDA. This has been an incredible week. I have absolutely fallen in love with London and the school. LAMDA has re-awoken my love of theatre and opened new possibilities that I might explore. I'll explain more. My flight out was delayed about two hours due to the inclement weather in the UK. The entire island had been covered in snow and very few flights had gone out. It's really unexpected because it does not snow very often in the UK, and they don't have the technology to clear the snow like we do in Colorado. In the UK, snow means life stops. I was really lucky to only be delayed two hours. The flight was not bad and I was able to sleep ... read more

Tonight was the annual Christmas Carol Service at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Fulham Road, Chelsea. The Marsden is the leading cancer hospital in the UK and probably ranks as one of the best in the world. Founded in 1851, it was the first hospital in the world dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer. The service, called 'Celebrate A Life', lets patients and loved ones sponsor a golden star to be placed on the Christmas tree located by the main steps of the hospital. Such a crowd of people turned out in the pouring rain to join in the carol singing, all united by a common bond. What emotions must have been concentrated within that mass of people: gratitude, hope, fear, anxiety, regret, guilt and, without doubt, far, far too much grief. The rain ... read more

The venue of choice for Karens Hen Night was Henry J Beans on the Kings Road in Chelsea. The Hen Night was arrange by Serena and Louise and a fine venue it was too! An excellent mix of people, a nice venue, great music and beefburgers the size of a house. Karen had specifically requested a non tacky night and I think we managed to give her one albeit that she had a wear a pink feather boa and a tiara all night - it could have been sooooo much worse! Serena, Louise and Jo decorated the area with pictures of Karen in various stages of her life. What was nice to see was that many of the "hens" were in the pictures too. Karen has known most of her friends since nursery school and thats ... read more

I don't just get up for anyone after only four hours sleep, so lucky I had Frank Lampard to coerce me out of bed on Boxing Day morning. That and the fact that it was the best weather we'd had in a long time - perfect for watching football. Hair of the dog and all, the first thing Joel did was to get back on the leftover champagne. Actually I lie. The first thing Joel did was call me about five times to see where I was when he woke up and I wasn’t in bed. (I was taking a shower.) Think he was on the turps from Xmas Eve till work four days later! So while the two Joel's got 'organised' I cleaned up the remnants of Xmas Day. Thank god we have a dishwasher ... read more

Jon and I took the tube to the Imperial War museum. At the museum there is an exhibit on Ian Fleming and James Bond 007. Jon is a huge 007 fan. We were not allowed to take pictures in the exhibit but there was a lot of memorabilia from his life as a spy and his inspiration for all of his novels that were later turned into the 007 movies. We both really enjoyed it. We purchased the museum book. Camille's friend Lady Patty Ridsdale worked with Ian Fleming and was his inspiration for Monty Penny. She was interviewed for the book and was mentioned. Later in the week we went to visit her and had her autograph our book. She was excited to see it. After the museum we met up with Camille for some ... read more

Camille (Jon's Grandmother), Jon and I packed up and left from Indian Wells to LAX to London Heathrow. We like to stay at the Wyndham Chelsea Harbour because it is a great hotel with all suites and it is easy to get to Ascot. The Royal Ascot horse races are in the town of Ascot that is about 1.5 hr by car from the Wyndham. This year Shirley Koenan and her daughter Sherry joined us. Shirely is a good friend of Camille's she lives in Santa Barbara and Indian Wells. Her daughter Sherry lives in Hawaii. They are a lot of fun and we are so glad that the came to London and Ascot too this year. ... read more

Exclaimer. I haven't slept in 26 hours, so typing on this European key board is harder than it should be. Typing in gerneral is harder than it should be. I should probably eat something. Anyway, I believe it was my cousin Nadia, I mean Tanya, who said that if weird things happened to me I would make them funny. Well my friends/family, I don't need to make this funny. This is, mostly, funny. Firstly, my dad has some of his mom in him, and as much has he hates to admit it he was nervous, and therefore was freaking out that i should be at the airport one day before my flight left. And by that I mean by 3:30 when my flight wasn't leaving until 7:45. Basically, by the time I exchanged money, got my ... read more
