Happy Easter! We're staying in Cirencester for a few days with Chris, Floss and the gorgeous little Bess. Peter and the Willow family have gone off to Ledbury to introduce Bess to some more members of the James clan. I'm having some quiet time at home (at Floss' house). It's nice to not be racing around for a few hours. Cirencester is a very impressive roman/medieval town. It's had quite a long history of invasion. During Roman times it was the 2nd most important town in England and the Romans built an amphitheater where they did the usual Roman type activities including gladiatorial contests. The most amazing thing is if you look out of Chris and Floss' front window you can see it. I've attached a picture which really doesn't do it justice. In 577 AD ... read more

On 9 July, we had breakfast at 8 o'clock in order to catch the 9 o'clock bus. We left hotel at 8:40. We walked as fast and brisk as possible and arrived at Mompellier Street at 8:52. We needed to run a bit while approaching Royal Well Crescent bus terminal. We managed to catch the 9:00 bus for Cirencester. The bus was running through the Cotswolds villages and hamlets, manor houses, all of which were built with honey coloured Cotswolds stones. It was already quite warm in the morning. The bus was arriving into Cirencester around 10 o'clock. Mark spotted one of the historic buildings, i.e. remains of St John's Hospital and Chantry of St John the Evangelist, founded in the 12th century by Henry II on the Spitalgate Lane. We got off at Dollar Street ... read more

Unexpected feast I did not think much about this show before I went to see it. One of my friend was having his dog-show display in the main arena and invited me to attend. And so I went and it turned out to be one of a pleasant surprise, indeed. The show pretty much had all the wonderful ingredients to entertain a family for fun. It was geared mostly to engage and enthrall children with the inevitable enjoyment of parents as well. QuackPack Show Thats the name of my friends show, rather a quirky name however aptly named thou, for a show which uses quacking ducks and frantic sheepdogs ! Meirion is from Carmathion in Wales from a proud sheepdog training family. He went on to become the youngest sheepdog champion in 'One-man and his dog' competition. ... read more

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to try everything life has to offer, I have done a bungee jump (read my Rhodes blog), sky dived (read my 'Skydive to raise money for charity in 1999....when I was 16 years old!' blog), scad dived (a free fall of 150 feet in to a net, I did this at the end of a pier in Blackpool, England), sky surfed (read my Rhodes blog) now to conquer the sky completely I needed to wing walk (if there is anything I haven't listed please let me know I WANT TO DO IT! lol). It wasn’t as straight forward as book your appointment, pay your money, do it, I had to pay for a year’s membership to an aviation club and then pay for the wing walk ... read more

From the hotel, we were dropped off by Mike, a part-time driver (when he’s not working for the County cutting grass). He chatted with me all the way, since I rode in the front of the van. Peter is our guide. We walked along well-defined paths and roads. Houses and beautiful gardens were seen with some frequency. These groups of houses are nominally villages, although none have any services beyond a mail box and a (red) phone box. Most of the houses have been extensively refurbished, repaired, and extended. Apparently they are expensive. Some villages are farm yards, in which all the outbuildings have been converted to houses. We saw this in Devon, too. To get to lunch we walked along a paved road to the Highwayman Inn, an old coaching house, now adjacent to the ... read more
