Me an Stonehenge
Just like a big walkway going all the way around it Just back from a great 4 day tour of South West England so am going to combine it all into one neat little package for you all!!
Monday - Left Karens place with my small pack in tow at 6 an headed on the tube to Victoria Station. Found place no problems on Vauxhill Bridge Road. This trip is totally diffferent to the Scottish, less hiking, more motorway driving but still good. Sights coming out of London were good, I think in Chelsea saw Battery Factory which was on a Pink Floyd CD cover. And there was little funky looking houseboats just moored perminatly on the Thames in Chelsea. Headed out an first stop was Stonehenge. It was right next to a main road which made it a bit less historic but it was something that needed to be ticked off the list. Lots of info on the solices and things. See alot of stones coming out of grounds on this trip!! Back on the bus an started travelling on little tiny lanes with massive hedges on both sides, its amazing how main roads are just like one wayers without anywhere to pull over for buses. We then went
up Hay Tor, massive bunch of rocks on a top of a hill in the Dartmoor National Park. Lots of green green green an all the animals had there young on display so very cute. Visited oldest bridge on a map in Postbridge an went through lots of little towns until we got to our first stop, Newquey for the night. This place would be pumping through the summer, kind of like Byron Bay culture. Had fish an chips an walked around all the streets an little coves of the cliffs. We overlook a beaut little beach. Had a big walk with one of the girls, Michelle to the main beach, an sat from about 7 - 8.30 watching about 50 surfers out onb the waves while the sunset into the water. Magic moment really. Surfy town. Proper grainy sand too which is a change from the stony stuff. Wierd though to be sitting on a beach with jacket an jeans while everyones in the water 😊
Tuesday - Possibly slept with the loudest snorer ever in the night. He sounded like an smatic pig who was being chocked, thats the best analagy i could come up with, really
Theatre on the water
What a place to perform hay loud. Today ended up being another beautiful day of holiday. Packed some fruit an muffins an headed off in the yellow bus I was used too in Scotland. Firstly headed to an abbey on a rocdky island, St Micheals Mount, which is joined to the mainland when the tide is low. Its supposed to be the sister of the one in Normanby. We then headed along more backroads to an abandoned roofless tiny church (Modron Church) which was pretty spooky. On the way back is a wishing well, not in the traditional sense but similar ro one i visited in Scotland where you hang something up which was something to do with your wish on the tree overhanging the water, hung my tissue to help me get over my chest infection. NExt stop was Arthurs Table. Looked at some more random stones that had something to do with the sun. It was Lands End next and too the First House Last House on the tip for an icecream. It was the best day for the vies, clear blue sky an green green lawns. THe cliffs an rocks were like piled up which looked quite odd but there are lots of
stories of giants an ledgends and pixies which are all good fun. We then visited Minack Theatre, It is topping the best sights on my trip so far. Its was an outside amphitheatre built on the steep hill on the edge of one of the most scenic cliffs in Britain. acouple of the group got up an did a little skit, but the arcitecture was so beautiful an unique an the sun was beeting down on me. We sat in the cafe overlooking a perfect sandy beach in the middle of the cliffs and had cream tea an scones. It was Cornish cream on both the tea an scones, was very creamy. A helicopter must have been doing scenic shots of the cliffs because of the weatherand went round obout 7 times. Got a bit of sun on me which was quite refreshing, the water even looked inviting. More stones then back to Newquey for a few drinks.
Wednesday - Another perfect hot day to be had. 1st we went to Tintagel Castle, said to be the consumation place of King Arthur, our leading man of the trip!! THe castle was set on a great peice of cliff face.
Sat an had a good chat to the castle keeper (i think) an she told me Arthur was just a made up by many monks who needed money so made up story an ruins an relics to fund themselves, but there must be some element of truth in there. We then headed to Glastonbury. What a cool little town, if you imagine West End in Brissy, its just like a bigger version of that. Lots of alternative types, pretty much 90% of people I saw actually. Sat in a little vege cafe called the Blue Note in a quaint little courtyard surrounded by stores like tarot cards and healing stones. Stopped for Cornish Pasties, mine was filled with Baked Beans and cheese, mmmmmmm. Chedder Gorge was next, nothing to really write about there. Then got to Bath, pretty town, university to average age is very young. Facades are like them of Edinburgh.
Thursday - Had a few hours in Bath this morning to walk around. Went to the Roman Baths which were pretty cool. The water was pretty warm but deffinatly to murky for anyone to swim in. Back on the bus an went through countyside which is featured
in a lot of period dramas. Stopped into Lacock (many towns with strange names here 😊 an they were actually filming a BBC TV one. Met some friendly people on the trip, a couple of the Canadian girls Sara and Cath are heading down to Amsterdam an doing the busabout thing to so will try an catch up with them somewhere along the way. Ok well off to Amsterdam tomorrow on a plane to start the mainland Europe thing, wont set foot back in the UK till 15 July so many more adventures to talk about, hope this was a good start.
PS have to start deleting pictures, have reached my limit!!
