On a fine summer day in August a trip to Jodrell Bank seemed like a good idea it was.Although the place carries a lot of restricted areas the whole experience was quite awe inspiring.First of all the grounds were exeptionally tidy and one was struck by the peace and tranquillity of the place but at the same time one began to wonder what was going on behind the scenes. Is there really something out there,I suppose only time will tell.A walk round the grounds is well worth the visit because at the actual telescope site there is not a lot to see,you cannot go inside the thing. So the only thing to do is to listen to a lecture on a visit to distant stars wearing a pair of 3D glasses, part of it was quite clever but I ... read more

Having competed this epic journey, I thought it only right that I should look back at the places I have seen, so here is my own Travel Review with marks out of 10 along with brief comments ! CITIES - Brussels 7/10 - Very picturesque, good cafes and restaurants, great for a city break. Cologne 7/10 - Lots to see and do, great location on the Rhine, another good city break. Moscow 6/10 - A great insight into its people. The city is exactly what I expected, grey buildings, the Kremlin and Red Square. Beijing 5/10 - Nice people but disappointed with Beijing. We were lucky enough to have them stay with us for six nights, until they departed for London by train earlier today. We fitted quite a bit in to the past week, including Liverpool, York and Harrogate. We went to Liverpool for dinner on Friday night (it was meant to be for the afternoon, but we left later than expected because Lennie left our car lights on and drained the battery!! We had to buy jumper leads and then find a car that could jump start it!!) and ended up at the Cavern Club where the Beatles used to play. On Saturday morning we drove up to York, a lovely town ... read more

Coming from a family that has always had strong connections with railways, I have always had an interest in trains from being a small child. Therefore I suppose it was only natural that I would always have a fascination about what it would be like to travel on the world's longest railway journey, the 'Trans-Siberian'. This was probably fueled in the last few years by watching with envy the travels of Michael Palin in his many BBC TV programmes taking unusual journeys across the globe. The 'Trans-Siberian Railway' is a working railway and in fact one of the busiest in the world for both passengers and freight across the entire length of Russia. At this stage lets dispel the myth that there is an actual train called the 'Trans-Siberian Express'. The Trans-Siberian is a railway and ... read more
