Cambridge, what a lovely university town. I wish it was term time though, so instead of the myriad of Chinese tourists we would have seen the students. That would have probably been a lot more fun! Anyways, the architecture of the different colleges is fascinating. They all try to be more splendid than the other! Most of them are rather famous or maybe I watched too much of University challenge. I loved that program.
We went to the Wren library (part of Trinity college). We had to ask a porter for directions and we ended up chatting with him a little. We asked him how students are assigned to each college. They don't use a sorting hat, instead each student just apply for its three favorites colleges. However, for Trinity they also have to seat an exam in their major and an interview. Only the best of the best get there. Ok back to the library story. They have very old books in there and two are particularly memorable: the first edition of Winnie the Pooh by AA Milnes and the first edition of Newton's Principia with hand notes by Newton himself.
The weather was really good so we sat by
the Cam and watch the punt full of tourist. The punters are students at the University and tell a story while punting. It was funny how many were saying 'my personal favorite is the first edition of Winnie the Pooh'... LOL
