HOORAY..,.and here we go again! The rucksacks are packed, the "everything bag" is bursting at the seams and we are ready for our New Zealand trip. And here is our new family member and travelling companion...not-so-tiny Tim! He is an upgrade to our original and much abused 2 man tent. He has 2 doors so we don't have to climb over each other in the middle of the night and he is designed to accommodate 3 people! So we can either start taking paying guests or we can use the extra space to get our rucksacks under cover. YES! We are very grateful to Ruthie and Ben who have lent us Notso Tiny Tim (maybe just Notso for short). He is already broken-in and ready for action. Well what a couple of days it has been! We are safely home ….thank you to everyone who has been concerned about us and/or has been offering advice about how to get home. At the end of the last blog, we were holed up in Baeza with a sack of food. We spent the day playing cards, discussing which one of us would go bonkers first (obviously Pete) and laughing about the titles of future blogs… (“Tantric Snap anyone?” was a favourite). On Tuesday morning, the police were patrolling making sure everything was closed. Our friendly neighbour Gina (the one with access to the secret trout supply) was cautioned for allowing a group of people to sit outside her cafe. With a 10 days to go, it seems our preoccupations are (in no particular order): making sure we leave our work in some semblance of order only selecting things to take that are either essential (shampoo, summer skirt and sandals) or light (tent, airbeds, sleeping bags etc etc) working out how cold it will be, in January, at night, in our tent in Torres del Paine. Answers offered range from very to not very. Turns out the cosy Vango"Banshee" is designed for two lying top to tail. We drove to Great Missenden today with the intention of having a coffee and a bite to eat at the Raold Dahl Twit Cafe but, unfortunately it was closed due to sickness so we ended up having a bite at a cafe nearby.... read more
