Lobby of our hotel
Taken from website Wow! We went to bed last night at 6:30...actually it would be more accurate to say that we passed out AFTER I almost set another small fan (I brought one with me...don’t ask) on fire. I give up—small appliances just do not work in Europe. Sigh. Luckily, I was so tired I didn’t miss its “white noise”. In fact, according to John, this hotel lies on a major flight path out of London. Who knew. I never heard a thing until I woke up at 7ish this morning. Yay me! At any rate, we had a great night’s sleep and were ready to go this morning, albeit slowly.
We did wake to rain and cool weather—in the high 40’s. After we had breakfast and then left the hotel to get in a walk around the town, It was in the 50’s. Then it was umbrellas up, umbrellas down. As it happened, by the time we met with our travel group at 2:00, the rain had stopped and the skies were lovely. This made a nice back drop for our tour of Windsor Castle. It was amazing. They do not allow picture taking inside the Castle, so you will just have

Taken from website to Google it. All I can say is that the State Apartments are amazingly over the top. The Castle is in marvelous repair. In fact, just looking at the outside you would think that it was built in the last 50 or so years. The first part was built by William the Conqueror in the eleven hundreds and it has been modified and changed by all the monarchs since then. Very clean and no stones falling off of the walls! Again, I am running out of time today before we meet our group for dinner but it is a facinating building to look up and read about. I think we were told that 39 monarchs have called this place home. It is the largest castle continuously lived in in the the world. Look it up!
Now for a little “house cleaning”. It takes a while for any of your comments to be seen on the blog. I have to see them first, click accept, and then they show up on the blog. I didn‘t look at my email until I got up this morning (remember, I slept for over 12 hours) so wasn’t able to do my part until
then. Comment to Joe...I still don’t have the map thing figured out yet. That is definitely a work in progress. Also, getting back to comments: sometimes some of you post what you intend to be a comment and it goes into a private message for me. I get them and I read them, but they don’t show up on the comments section. I don’t have a clue on how to fix that. (Shoulder shrug!!)
Note on our hotel: Castle Hotel WIndsor is one of the oldest inns in WIndsor: the original building dates back to the mid-1500’s. It overlooks Sir Christopher Wren’s Guild Hall as well as Windsor Castle.
PS...Back from a wonderful meal here at the hotel. Everyone we have met in our group seems to be very congenial. That always helps to make a trip more fun. We are getting ready to go downstairs to meet a lady who is going to give us a night time walking tour of Windsor...
9:00...Had a great night time tour. Learned a little bit and had lots of laughs. Today has been a good day. We have to have bags outside the door at 7:00 in the morning,
so nighty night!
