ANOTHER picture of us - we were bored =)
We headed down to the pub last night to watch football and grab some dinner around 7PM. We started talking to another couple who were from Toronto and were also traveling through Europe. It was really nice to relax and talk with other people. We left around midnight. It was pouring rain with a lot of lightening when we walked out of the pub. Headed back to room took ½ an Ambien. Chris killed 4 decent size spiders before we climbed into bed. Hmm… maybe if we complain we can get a little of the extra $70 back we had to dish out?? Yeah, no such luck.
We got up around 8AM the next morning and went down to the free breakfast. It was good - breads, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, etc. We headed out (still raining) to the huge chocolate shop just down the street (all shops, except for souvenir and restaurants are closed on Sundays). The prices weren’t too bad and we bought around $40 worth of chocolate. What can I say, it’s Swiss Chocolate! Everything has been soooo expensive here. I’ve taken pics of a few things. In one of the stores in Interlaken, there was a cheap tin bowl, painted pink with a flower on it. Something you would find in one of our dollar stores, here in Switzerland - $42. We then headed out to the train station to catch a train to Zurich - we made it just in time. Once we got to Zurich, we stored our luggage in a locker ($8 per locker) and walked around the town. It’s a pretty town, but I liked the Bern area much better. Of course, this is the financial district, so I wasn’t expecting beautiful scenery. After browsing some shops, I’m guessing Zurich might be the most expensive town out of all the places we have visited in Switzerland. Since we didn’t have a lot of time, we decided to get a quick bite to eat at the McDonald’s, we each got a Filet-O-Fish (yes, it tastes the exact same as it does back home), no fries and I got a small Coca-Cola Light - Total was $15, no too bad. We wanted to get some bread and cheese for the train ride Germany (which is 5 ½ hours) for dinner. We loved the sheep cheese from France, and we were told we could get some

at a store called Globus. A tiny little block set us back $16.85. We also got a bag of tortilla chips ($9.80) and some salsa ($5). We figure this will be dinner =). We had nice weather in Zurich, it’s beautiful outside. We are now on the train to Salzburg, Austria, then we change trains to Friesling, Germany and then onto Berchtesgaden, Germany. We should arrive around 9PM. Our hotel isn’t too far away, we plan on walking to it. The train is pretty new and is really nice, leather seats, outlets to charge your electronics, big table and tons of room.

We are currently traveling through Austria. AMAZING! The views are so incredible. Words can’t describe this place. Huge waterfalls everywhere, low-hanging clouds on the mountains, so many different color greens of the trees, grass, plants, corn fields, the blue-green water, the sheep goats and cow (all with bells on!) grazing in the meadows, yellow, purple, pink wildflowers everywhere. This whole train ride through Austria has looked like a postcard. It is absolutely breaktaking. Without a doubt, the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen, better than Switzerland I thought. We arrived in Berchtesgaden around 9PM. The hotel was

only a 5 minute walk (so we thought), but once we stepped out of the train station - we had no idea where to go. It was pitch black and deserted. A taxi, thankfully, pulled up and we had him take us to the hotel. The hotel was up a long winding hill - so glad we grabbed the taxi! We checked in - no internet, bummer. We were told to head down two doors to a casino/pub where they would have wi-fi. We set our bags in our room and headed out. The pub/casino we were directed to was, a little shady to say the least. We walked into a little room with about 10 slot machines behind a black curtain, then a man appeared from behind another black curtain, we decided to leave and not worry about the internet lol. We headed over to the pub next door. The owner tried giving us his wireless password, but it didn’t work and we ended up staying and talking from a couple from Minnesota who were on a tour. Left about an hour later and headed for bed. The room was nice - the cheapest hotel yet. We had a balcony with great views.
