We continued northwards on straight and very fast roads through endless uninhabited forest on rolling hills with small towns spaced every 100-150k.
Every so often we needed to slow down to avoid the reindeer who were ambling across the road.

We are now in Lapland inhabited by the Sami people who traditionally made their living from reindeer husbandry. At Arvidsjaur we looked round a village of simple wooden huts used by the Sami at the end of the 18th century.

Just before Jokkmokk we finally crossed the Arctic Circle and were able to take the photo to prove it. At Jokkmokk we had hoped to look around a museum explaining the traditions of the Sami but unfortunately it closed earlier than we had expected so we missed it.

We passed through the iron ore mining town of Gallivare and finally spent the night on a small colourful campsite at Karesuando on the Finnish boarder. As I write this at 10.30 it is still broad daylight as we think we are now in the area of the midnight sun.
