Stockholm-Karlskoga 30 grader i skuggan! Började dagen med garantiservice på H-D. Grymt varmt men f-a-s-c-i-n-e-r-a-n-d-e! Hursomhelst, efter ... read more

Sadly, some objects are just not made for long and chaotic travels across Scandinavia. Mr Squidgy was one of them. A trusty blue and white spotted travel cushion, he served Alyce well on the arduous plane trek from Perth, through Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam to Bergen. He accompanied her through Oslo, Copenhagen, Malmo and Stockholm... Where he sadly met his demise. Twisted tightly around a hook on her pack for 11 days proved too much for the brave (and comfortable) cushion, and he finally gave up the ghost and dropped to the floor, scattering hundreds of polystyrene balls everywhere. He will be sorely missed. (But possibly quickly replaced for the flight home). May he rest in peace, where-ever the Stockholm garbage trucks take him... Apart from that sad news, not much to report. We spent the ... read more

Another rainy day. I've been cycling for weeks now in the constant worry of being forced to seek for solutions to stay reasonably dry. I drift through the immense Swedish forests of coniferous, that after the rain release a sweet and pungent smell that brings my mind back to Asian and Middle Eastern spice markets. Other journeys that today seem to belong to times so remote that could not be possibly mine. It's the traveller's dilation of time, where a day still lasts 24 hours, but the density of present events pushes the past ones in far-flung, almost unfathomable cells of memory. I'm cycling along the road 239, a hilly and desolate blade of tar that leads to the Norwegian border. The region is an endless of forests and lakes, the smaller ones not even marked ... read more

Hej everyone! Sorry it has been so long since we have been able to write. After the game yesterday, we went over to Freddy’s apartment and I officially signed with Qbik for the season! Really, I signed for both Z and myself, since we will be somewhat sharing a contract in the fall when she is here. It was really exciting! Z snapped a photo of it- it felt like when I signed to college 5 years ago, except I’m much older and larger. Dennis was a great help as usual as he translated for both Freddy and me (I really must learn Swedish). We then headed south about two hours to Trollhattan with Dennis, Helene, and Eva. We are still in Trollhattan at their house (sadly without Aunt Kathy, who is ironically in the US ... read more

Siw and Bertil made us feel right at home. They had a guest bedroom set up for Laura and I, hot water ready for tea, and a fridge stocked with whatever we could have possibly needed. They showed us around their beautiful home and told us stories about the family and all their travels. Siw and Bertil actually lived in Malaysia for three years so we got to see all the artifacts from their stay there. Having stayed in Africa for a bit as well, they showed us the huge zebra hide they brought back, hanging up in one of their sitting rooms. After our game and a long drive to Trollhattan we were pretty tired, so it didn’t take long to fall asleep. And for the first time on the trip, I slept like a ... read more

The following blogs have been a work in progress over the past few days as we have had very little internet access... My pictures have been uploaded to this blog, but Zuzu's camera cord is not with us, so we will upload more ASAP! Zuzu wrote the following: Hej everyone! It’s only our fifth day across the ocean yet we’ve been lucky enough to experience so much already! Thursday, the day after our game, was a light practice day. We did some speed ladders, passing drills and shooting. Boyer had to work hard in goal during our shooting because according to Bula the goalie coach, game day was a light day for her! On the way to and from practice we got a quick rundown of the hottest Swedish music compliments of Josephine, our teammate and ... read more

First and foremost- let me say a HUGE thank you to my aunt Kathy and uncle Dennis for everything they have done to make this happen... It’s Wednesday night and we have just returned to our apartment from our first practice game with Qbik. Zuzu scored one goal and had an assist in our 4-1 victory! The goal was a 1 v 1 slot to the left of the keeper and the assist was a beautiful flick with her back to goal to an oncoming midfielder who had a magnificent finish. The team plays a flat back four, so other than the goal the other team scored, I didn’t do much but switch the point of attack with my feet. The opponent’s goal came off of a set kick just outside the arc. She hit iron ... read more

Okay, due to popular demand, I'm posting some pictures of my building, my room and the corridor I live in. My favourite features are the location, which is close to the university, and the fact that everyone has their own bathroom here, it is almost unheard of to share. Also, I have a heated towel rack, which is pretty cool. My room looks the same now as when I took these pictures, except for a couple recent Ikea additions. ... read more
