BB King Blues Club Band
The Singer CeCe was amazing! As were all of the band members. We have a day at sea today , so I chose to have room service breakfast delivered at 8:00am, my usual coffee, yogurt and croissants with jam to get me going. I set out on foot to find my way around this beautiful ship. I have been on her sister ships the Oosterdam and New Amsterdam, but this is a little bit bigger than those two, with a few added show rooms and more dining options. I chose a spa treatment about noon to both help my poor aching muscles from my poor sleep on the flights, and my sore feet from walking all over Rome. After a short nap, I headed up to the Lido for a small bite from the buffet. They always have a great selection of meat salads, those Scandinavians like their shrimp and beef salads. At 2:00pm there was a Meet and Greet of the Cruise Critic people who had met online, but Lo and Behold another group had already taken over the lounge. Holland had messed up on our group's reservation. Oh well, we just took over a corner and got to know one another, so we had some familiar faces to know and talk
Entertaining the youngest of fans
Everyone from 2 to 102 were entertained by this group each night. with along the way. Many of us were taking shore excursions together, off the ship, with Top Day Tours of Spain, so we figured we'd get to know one another since we'd be spending hours on the bus together.
Dinner was delightful. We sat with several Aussies who were taking the ship for 30 days! I guess if you're going to take the long haul for a winter vacation, you might as well make it a long trip and see all of Europe while you're there. Actually, as we found out along the way, this is what many, many Australians do, go to Europe for 6 weeks in their wintertime for sun and relaxation. Sort of like we go to Palm Springs or Florida. They were lots of fun and every night we were with some of them. We had open seating which meant we were seated when we showed up in the dining room with whomever arrived at the same time. Nora, Marilyn and I would meet in one of our cabins for a drink, or in one of the lounges and then head to the dining room together.
After dinner I headed to the BB King
Private Poolside cabanas for rent
Cabanas offered on Eurodam were with private lounges, food and beverage service, great for R & R on a sea day. Blues Club, EVERY night. I'm not one for show tunes and dancers, too young for that sort of entertainment, or maybe I've just been on too many cruises and it bores me. The BB King Club plays live music, 5 musicians and a singer, all black, all extremely talented, and you know every word to every song, different sets every night. They say they play the "Memphis Sound." Well, that includes Diana Ross, Elvis, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Peaches & Herb, and a whole list of players of love songs that will have you and your honey up dancing and singing along with them. It was definitely the best music I have heard on a ship in a long time, and I hope Holland America continues this theme on other ships.
We dock at Cartagena tomorrow and I will get to that in my next blog, but it will be posted as Caravaca de la Cruz, as that is my ultimate destination tomorrow, with a short stop in Cartagena, which, by the way is BEAUTIFUL and should not be missed in this part of Murcia.
