Madrid Airport
Finally at the Madrid airport..ready to take the bus to the city...But we are in Madrid!
We had a very easy trip (except for the lack of sleep and some wandering in very large airports...) No delays, no lines, good free food and drink in the planes, great service, friendly people everywhere. Heathrow was immense and somewhat confusing, butwe had enough time between flights that we didn't have to worry. Madrid's airport was eerily empty. It's new and beautiful, but for one of Europe's main airports, it looked underused today.
We quickly found the express bus at the Madrid airport that took us (for 5 euros) within a few blocks of our hotel. We walked the rest of the way, gazing at the spectacular buildings all around us. The locals were out strolling (it was around 7:00pm) and everyone seems calm and happy here. Our room is tiny, in a tiny hotel on the fourth floor of a building housing three other hotels, and located on a quiet plaza right in the center of the old part of Madrid. We strolled the pedestrian shopping streets nearby tonight, and ate a small restaurant on the next street over....simple and good...but the flan wasn't as good as yours, Nancy!

Plaza de Cibeles
Plaza de Cibeles, where we got off the bus... Time to finally get some sleep....
