Hello from Ciudad Real,
This is where I am going to spend the sunday night as I have no interest in driving any further today !!
Let me quickly fill you in on the yesterdays activities in Vielha. Saturday was the last official day of the meeting and the day started off at 11.00 in the center of Vielha. The plan for the day was to drive around the Valley in convoy. A total of 145 goldwings took part and as always they noise was incredible as we passed through the different villages. Many of the bikes have Non standard horn set ups and are capable of making any noise from a police car to an aircraft taking off to a horse neighing ! ……………Have to look into getting something similar !
Our first stop was at the top of the valley at a height of 2072 meters. The road coming up is incredible and the views are breath taking. This is nature putting on a massive display of its power and might. The road up to the top had to be shared with non road tax paying two wheeled lycra clad Gentlemen. I did not see any
ladies! Why do these $%&/)=? insist on riding 3 and 4 abreast and blocking the road for other users ? It is a little bit unsettling when there is a 1000 M drop on the other side…..No room for mistakes. As you can guess , they are not my favorite breed of road user at the moment. STAY ON YOUR CYCLE PATHS !
Lunch time was at a Ski resort which was closed at this time of the year and we had it all for ourselves. The food was great and plentiful and everyone complimented the organizers. They really did a good job.
Coming up to 16.00 H it was time to head back down and we started off with rumbles of thunder and the odd flash. It didn't take long for the rain to arrive and several bikes pulled over to shelter. This was the first time I had driven in the rain on this bike ( in fuerteventura you don't have to ! ) and there is quite good protection.Luckily it was not a lot of rain and soon stopped.
a large group of us headed back to the Hotel to shower and change for the
evenings prize giving at eight.
I decided to leave the bike this time in the garage and got a taxi out to campsite. This meant that I could have a beer or two. I was able to grab a quick chicken and chips before the people all started coming together for the closing ceremony and prize giving. There were 14 different countries represented including a couple from Canada who have been touring Europe for several months. After the prize giving we sat around a chatted and got to meet people from all over Europe. Most wering their " colours " ( jackets with patches and badges sewn onto them )
I would have stayed later but come 23.30 I was starting to think abut the early start and the beers were slowly starting to have an effect. So being a totally responsible person I ordered another beer and a taxi to get me back to the hotel.
Great group of people and I say to those I met , See you on Fuerteventura……or next year at the Treffen.
Back at the hotel I had to start packing and getting ready for an early start. Wake at 06.00 and on
the road at 07.00. That was the plan
To be continued……………..
