Un Cafe y Una Cerveza ,
Thats what I have in front of me at the moment, Its about 19.30 and I am sitting in Sevilla in a wonderful plaza with about 33 degrees at the moment.
So how did I get here ?…..lets start on sunday morning a long way from here. To be exact, about 830 Kms.
Sunday morning started for me at about 04.00 when I was woken up by the sound of driving rain outside the hotel. As I had not planned to get up till 06.00 I turned over and went back to sleep. The alarm woke me up again at 6 and on auto pilot I got ready to go. I felt a bit like the michelin man as I rolled out of the garage into the rain, I was dressed in full waterproofs over my leathers and was warm and dry and it stayed that way. Thanks Andy ,the Flouro gear works well. I headed out of Vielha at 6.56 am and had the road to myself.Climbing up out of the valley to the tunnel was similar to flying through a cloud but with lightning sometimes below me ! Coming out of
the tunnel which is 6 Km long was like driving into a cloud and it stayed that way until I got a long way down the mountain. I am sure the road is beautiful in nice weather but it was hard work in the rain. Slowly as I approached LLeida ,the weather changed from rain to just being grey and looking like rain.
I joined the motorway at lleida and from then on it was full speed ahead. I stopped for breakfast in a motorway cafe and had a very quick and not very good Bocadillo and a cup of coffee.
I was able to maintain a good speed and varied from being legal on cruise control at 120 or so with periods of 160 to stop me being too bored.
I did have one worrying moment when after a period of very fast driving I noticed that the tank was almost empty. The Wing does drink fuel at 160 - 170 ! My GPS told me that there was a petrol station just off the motorway so I turned off to find it. Arriving at the point where there should be a petrol station , I found only a
green field. This was not good and I was already thinking what I could do on a Sunday if I ran out of petrol. Turning around I went back to the next village and asked a couple of old guys where the next place was. Luckily there was a petrol station not too far away and so off I went. This place had only two pumps and was closed on a sunday. Fortune was with me in that it was equipped with a credit card machine and I could do a quick fill up.
The most useful piece of kit I have is the GPS in the phone which is mounted on the bars and avises me of all radars , Permanent and mobile through a little voice in my helmet. I hope I have not received to many tickets ! Twice this year is enough !!
Lunchtime was a quick stop for a snack and then it was on again.
Madrid came and went and I was slowly starting to think about stopping for the night. I started checking hotel within a 200 Km range a decided on Ciudad Real which was about 150 km in front
of me. I arrived there early evening and although the City did not really impress me the Hotel was super. Garage for the bike,Hot shower and all mod cons.Hotel Guadinna was the name of it and could be recommended for a quick stop.I had a good nights sleep after a quick meal and a long walk around to stretch my legs after so long on the bike.. Lots of modern buildings and graffiti and no real character. Will not go back !
Ok …..back to the hotel now and change and then off out into Sevilla for something to eat.
