After 36 hours on the train I finally arrived in Barcelona! It was pretty late so I didn't see anything my first night. But I met a girl from Barcelona on the train and she kept telling me that in Barcelona I really have to watch my bag, which I had heard some horrible stories about pickpockets in Barcelona, so I am well warned. But then I got to the metro station and they warn you in 3 or 4 different languages " be aware pickpockets are looking for anyway to distract you so they can steal your belongings." And then sometimes they have little tv screens in the metro with cartoon depiction of a pickpocketing. So I am thinking it must be pretty bad. But so far so good. I have been keeping a really good eye out and watching my bag like crazy!
In the morning I woke up as early as I could to go explore the city. I started on La Ramblas, the most famous street in Barcelona. It was really amazing, a lot of shops, tourists, cafes, and tapas restaurants. And the street performers have gotten really creative here. They have elaborate costumes, props,
and all sorts of gimmicks. I saw one guy with a soccer ball bouncing it with feet, head, shoulders, for a few minutes without ever dropping it or using his hands.
I walked all the way down until i hit the port which was also very beautiful. The weather has been perfect in Barcelona. Sunny, warm but not too hot, and there is always at least a slight breeze from the sea. I walked around the port and up to a little park that had a little tiny lake, and a huge and amazing fountain.
I then decided to walk up toward the gaudi stuff. I walked up La Ramblas again and ran into a girl from London that I had met on the train so we went to walk together. We saw 2 Gaudi buildings. The one with the the colorful mosaics is just amazing! After a while she had to head back to her hostel so I walked back down La Ramblas in search of a restaurant that was highly recommend.
After lunch I went to look for the other Gaudi buildings in the city. I went to Sagrada Famiglia and then took the metro up to the
Gaudi park. The park was absolutely amazing. The way he used color and lines is just amazing. The park is huge with several buildings and fountains and lots of plants and trees. I didn't even make it though the whole thing because I had already done so much walking, but I plan to go back before I leave Barcelona.
I then headed back down to the main part of town. I went to the beach just at sunset and sat to people watch and take in the gorgeous view of the beach, ocean, and full moon. Then I went to a cool little Irish pub for a beer. I met some really cool English people there and we got to talk for a while before I headed back home.
Today I didnt do much. I woke up late and went for coffee on La Ramblas, then my new Spanish friend took me to a cool little bar called Basc de la Fadae, which is Woods of the Fairy in Catalan. This place was decked out with fake trees, lanterns, waterfall, and everything looking fairy-esque. It was really cute! We got a Sangria there mmmmm! After lunch we went to
sit by the beach and get some sun, and people watch!!!
