Sanchez Feast
This was Sunday lunch - the paella to die for Hola Amigos
It´s been another sweltering blue sky day here in Barcelona. The Sanchez family have been feeding me like a king and treating me like a princess. Isabelle has been in the kitchen putting her very capable skills to good use. We had a family feast on Saturday night when I arrived - the feature dish was Beer Chicken - one of the natural wonders of this world - along with other very tasty delights to accompany the pollo. On Sunday she backed it up again with a devine paella. For Isabelle - this dish is like our Sunday roast - but I know what I´d choose if there was a choice!
After a short siesta we headed out to see some of the sights. First stop the Olympic stadium, then the Castell de Montjuic overlooking the sea and then finally the Font Magica (the magic fountain). To my delight, Freddie Mercury is still belting out the theme song to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics - orginally titled ´Barcelona´ (Freddie chooses to sing it without the lisp). It took me back to a time in 1995 when I was visiting Barcelona with my friend Loretta. When this particular song
came blasting out of the speakers, we roared with laughter. It still had the same effect. It also brought back some fun memories of our time back then... like when the Youth Hostel flooded during a fierce thunderstorm, or the girl that wore her one piece bathers as pyjamas (this wasn´t due to the thunderstorm - she was just a weird cat from South Africa) or the man making the Metro announcements... when he said ´Proximal´ it sounded like he was auditioning for a porn movie.
I only just found out that we have a new Prime Minister? It´s so easy to miss these things especially when you don´t watch the TV news because it´s either in Gaelic or Catalan and you don´t read a newspaper - because you just don´t have the time 😊 Perhaps someone could put a little scap book together of all the important news items..... Chiara and Dominic?
I celebrated my birthday yesterday by hitting the shops. It´s sale time here, which means there´s a lot of really cheap stuff, but unfortunately it´s pretty rubbish too. So I´ve consoled myself with a pair a Camper shoes😊 Thanks to everyone who sent through a
Olympic Stadium Forecourt
There was a bit of storm brewing, which turned out to be not much, it then cleared pretty quickly text it was lovely to hear all the beeps when I turned my phone on in the morning 😊 We went out for tapas and some beer and some tinto de verano (it´s kind of like sangria... but not quite) Silvi took us to some really cool bars away from the tourists and we had a great night.
Tomorrow I leave for Menora a small island south of Barcelona. It will be my first ´island´ holiday ie beaches, ocean, holiday apartments etc. Let´s see how I cope before I get bored out of my brain! I´ll be working on my tan lines for the frock I´m wearing to the wedding. Believe it or not I managed to get a bit of colour whilst cycling around Ireland - so I need to fill in some of the whiter gaps.
Did I mention that it was hot? It´s roasting! I´ve got my trusty Basecamp with me and last night it got down to a cool 29´C - thoroughly delightful. I´m hoping the sea breeze at our apartments tomorrow will be kind overnight!! This is where we are staying 😊 http://www.menorcaplus.com/esp/apartamentos-menorca/apartamento-rocas-marinas.htm
Hasta luego amigos

Ange, blog is great. One way to keep cool is to drink more of what the locals drink, so it has to be tinto de verano I suppose!
