Nectarines from Craprabo
I was so chuffed with this purchase - they turned out to be very yummy :-) Sunday 13 July 2008 The film of the night was Ghost Rider, which could've been an alright film, but the quality wasn't great, so it was a bit of a strain to watch. I didn't really get the ending though - why couldn't he have just taken back his ghost riding power?? Hmmmm....
Monday 14 July 2008 We watched All The King's Men, with Sean Penn playing a hick - he was soooooo hard to understand! Again I fell asleep halfway through.
Tuesday 15 July 2008 My evening class students asked when the last lesson was - 18th December. They said they'd take me out for dinner that night - paella in Barceloneta. Very nice of them, but I don't think I'll be here to enjoy it - didn't have the heart to tell them that though...
Wednesday 16 July 2008 Another day off today! I think I need to start going to the beach on my own - people seem to do it here, I just need to make sure I don't bring any valuables, just in case someone runs off with my stuff...
Thursday 17 July 2008 Another class finished today - we watched Fawlty
Towers (Basil the Rat episode), and they seemed to enjoy it. Then we talked about weird foods, and the big boss guy of Delonghi has eaten dog testicles - twice! He said the first time he didn't really enjoy it, but the second time he was used to it. These guys seem to be a lot more open about eating various things than my CMA students.
Watched The Tao of Steve, which was OK. Pretty amusing in bits, but nothing to shout out about.
Friday 18 July 2008 As I didn't go to the beach last Friday, I was determined to go today, even if it meant going on my own. Luckily Paula said she'd come too, so we met at Verdaguer at 14:30 and headed to San Pol de Mar, which is 1 stop before Calella. The train journey was hellish! Not only were we stuck in a tunnel for 30 minutes, but the A/C went off too so we were boiling and it didn't help that the train was full :-( As the A/C went off, it meant the screens went off too, so we couldn't tell where we were at each stop and had to look
Full moon
The view from our terrace out of the window. The annoying thing was we were on the end carriage at the back, so it was really difficult to see the signs at the station, and surprise surprise - we missed our stop! We only found out where we were after I asked someone and they said Calella was the next stop. Oops! Instead of getting a train back one stop - which probably would've taken ages - we decided to get of at Calella and stay there. Turned out to be a good thing tho, as the beach was beautiful and not too busy. AND although the water wasn't as calm as last time, it was still really nice to swim in. All in all a fantastic day :-D and no boys to ruin it...
We decided we wanted a drink, so we headed to the beach bar to check out the prices, but they weren't showing so we figured that's probably a bad sign, and ended up getting a train back to Barcelona. We stopped at the shwarma joint next to the new Japanese restaurant and ordered a chicken shwarma each and some wine for Paula and beer for me. Alex joined us a
bit later and got some food too. We stayed there for a few drinks, although I changed to a clara after the first beer.
Saturday 19 July 2008 It is BOILING today!! Had to put the A/C on, because there was not enough of a breeze to be comfortable. We did our weekly shop at Mercadona, where I got some picnic stuff and made a little picnic for the afternoon. Met Paula and Ali on San Joan at 15:00 and walked down to Ciutadella Park, where we found a nice shady spot to park our bums and ate the yummy food I brought. Paula realised she'd forgotten something for the picnic - picnic food! She did however bring a nice cold bottle of water :-) It was a nice day and we had a nice breeze in our shady spot, and I started to re-read Yes Man.
We decided to check out the cinema, as Paula said the original language one was close by, so we walked for what seemed like ages to get out of the bloody park, then made it to the 15 screen cinema. We were all psyched up to watch The Hulk, but when we got there they didn't have times for The Hulk up, which was really disappointing. Turned out the last showing was at 18:00, so we'd missed it by an hour :-( Got the metro back not very happy...
Watched Blade Runner with Alex at home, which I didn't enjoy much. Films don't seem to be going very well lately...
