Balloon boy
Alex got VERY excited about the balloons and started sticking them on his head. Sunday 4 May 2008 Had lunch with G down by the coast, which was nice, although everyone seemed to be a little stressed and agi while we were trying to find a place to eat. I got the cod gratin, which was sooooo garlicy! Good thing I'm not going out later...
The day was boooootiful tho - definitely not jumper weather anymore!
Sent out my CV to a few places on Kate (career officer at Oxford House) 's spreadsheet. Think it might be out of date, silly cow - does she not realise the importance of keeping documents updated??!?! Not impressed...
Got a package today delivered by DHL - my mum had sent me a cake, tea, biscuits and olive oil biscuits for my birthday!
Monday 5 May 2008 Got a call from someone I sent my CV to yesterday and asked if I could come in tomorrow. I can't really be arsed, but guess I should start doing something with my days now that there's no course. Alex has decided to take a week off before looking for work. I think I'd just get bored.
Tuesday 6 May 2008 Had the interview with Comunicando SIL - couldn't remember
Birthday jelly!
My first celebration of my birthday. the guy's name, thought it was Steve or Mike.... got to the place and thought he said Stuart. Hmmmm.... Seemed like an alright place tho - they do translations and interpretation as well as in-company classes. And Steve/Mike/Stuart seemed nice as well - reminded me of an old professor at King's (Trevor Hall). Maybe they're related - I'll have to find out if S/M/S is a Mr. Hall.
So he offered me some hours. I said I'll think about it - they're mainly at the port/airport so I get travel expenses too.
When I got home, S/M/S called and offered me more hours! So I confirmed later that evening and he asked if I wanted to go in tomorrow! Jeez, talk about little notice. So I thought I might as well. This time I heard him say his name was Jim. Very confusing...
Wednesday 7 May 2008 As today is an evening class, I went into S/M/S/J's office to go through some paperwork and have a quick chat about the class. I was expecting him to give me some materials to work with, but he didn't so I was a bit unprepared for the lesson. However, I did found
The birthday crew
Mr. Camel got in there too. out that the T-10 card can be used as many times as you want within 1 hour and you only get charged once for it. So that kinda made up for the fact that I was about to fall flat on my face.
Had a quick think on the way about what I would do in the lesson and decided what happens happens so there's no point stressing about it. The people were actually very nice and although I got through everything I'd planned within 30 mins (it's a 90 min class), I found out that I'm a don at improvisation! One of the guys gave me a lift to the metro station after the class, which was nice - still took me an hour to get home.
When I got back Alex had invited Kylie to have dinner with us. Lord knows why - we don't have any food!!!! So we had noodles, which I see more of as a snack but anyway... Kylie missed her last train so she said she'd get the night bus, which starts at midnight, but she never seemed to leave.... ended up falling asleep on our chair (we have a single bed which
Flowers
birthday present from Kylie is much comfier, but we didn't want to wake her up) and we went to bed at 6am :-s
Thursday 8 May 2008 Lots of messages for my birthday, yay! Tasha, Dru, Dempsey and Zoe came round after dinner and we had the cake that my mum sent - dark fruit cake with icing. The others seemed to enjoy it even though I don't like raisins.... but I saw that on one side of the cake box it said “dark fruit cake” and on the other “sponge cake with strawberry jam”. I expected more from Fortnum & Mason. Jeremy joined us later and we had to run to get the last metro for Apolo. Managed to catch the last one and had to queue for a while before they let us in. But it was free. But the DJs were awful. And the drinks were expensive (8 euros for a small glass of beer and a coke). But once the crappy DJs finished, they started playing some funky music and some people started breakdancing. Then a Swedish rap band came on, which Alex enjoyed but I decided to leave.
Got home around 3:30 after getting ripped off by a
cabbie and watched District 13, which had AWESOME action but crappy storyline/acting. But wicked action.
Friday 9 May 2008 It's pissing down with rain today! Seems like we've got the English weather now :-( So we watched a couple of films - Apocalypse Now, which I didn't really get towards the end (might have been because I was falling asleep), and Syriana, which I didn't really get towards the end and Alex was falling asleep.
Saw a picture of a road on the news which had collapsed from all the rain - seems like London's not the only place that can't handle water.
Saturday 10 May 2008 Still raining. Non-stop rain is causing our building to fall apart outside! There's white stuff all over the terrace, which I think is from the walls crumbling. As long as the building doesn't collapse, I guess it's quite funny. Unfortunately, as the next 2 days are closed (Monday is a local bank holiday), we had to go out to get some water and food :-( When we were about to go out, the rain decided to pour heavily, so had to wait for it to calm down a bit. The supermarket
Birthday cake
I think there were 19 candles on it because the others wouldn't fit. was the quietest I've ever seen it!
Decided to watch Stealth, which turned out to be super cheesy and very predictable, but Alex seemed to enjoy the action. Towards the end of the film the weather got worse and there was a mini storm outside. It did worry me a bit, as the building doesn't seem to be in very good condition. But we survived.
