Tasha's birthday present
We couldn't afford to buy her something nice Sunday 6 April 2008 Woke up feeling super rough this morning - I'm definitely getting ill! Made the executive decision to stay in today and rest, so didn't have much to do except watch more films. I wanted to start with Pan's Labyrinth, but couldn't get the subs to work properly so that was out of the question :-( Ended up watching Step Up, which Alex copied off Raj for me because it's a chick flick and he thought I'd like it. Wasn't great - it's pretty much the same as that dance film with that girl from 10 Things I Hate About You who does ballet and some black guy who does street dancing. But in Step Up it's a white guy. I'll most likely forget it by morning. I then decided that I wanted to watch Lust, Caution, but that screwed up too coz I couldn't get the subs up :'-( so started to watch The Constant Gardener. Unfortunately there are jerky bits in the film, so I started to feel a bit nauseous and not even halfway through, I had to turn it off and have a little kip.
Alex kindly brought me back some Halls Soothers after
his 2 hour footie game. He got picked last (or not picked at all should I say), so he wasn't very happy. But he showed them with his amazing goal! The pussy yank cap'n that didn't pick Alex decided at one point that he was injured and walked off. So I was told.
Monday 7 April 2008 First day of the course and thank god we don't have to get in until 11:00 coz I've got a fuckin cough!
There's 8 of us altogether, and when we walked into the room, everyone seemed to be middle aged or over - bit worrying as I didn't really feel like respecting my elders for a whole month! Plus Alex was the only male in the room. But then a couple of other young people walked in and another man, so not as bad as originally looked. As this is a public site, I won't name any names (just in case) but there are about 3 cool people, 1 really weird person, 1 super annoying person, and a dick. Then we got split into teaching groups and Alex got all the cool people :-( must be bad karma for something... a whole
month of these people!! Anyhoo, from Wednesday we've got teaching practice in the morning for 2 hours, then the afternoon's all sorts of grammar and learning sessions. We're gona learn Macedonian for 4 hours to observe how she teaches a completely new language. Should be interesting...
Tuesday 8 April 2008 Macedonian was interesting - Alex reckons he's the don! Teaching observation was interesting too - my group was with Jane, who's a bit ditsy, but made it look easy so fingers crossed... The weird person in my group is actually ok - think they just came across weird on the first day for some reason. Plus the annoying one is ok too. Maybe I judged too quickly...
Wednesday 9 April 2008 I was wrong - the annoying one has redeemed their title! My god - I just wana smack em in the face sometimes. But the other one's still cool. And I just avoid the dick who thinks they know everything.
So we had our first day of actual teaching! I did pretty well if I do say so myself - got really nervous just before, but turned out to be a breeze... In the Macedonian class, I
found that Alex had done pretty well too so yay :-D
Unfortunately think my cough is turning into a cold.... :-(
Thursday 10 April 2008 I thought I fucked up today's lesson, but turned out I'm too hard on myself - I think I have to stop being so precise!! Anyhoo it's still going well, although I have super low energy levels because I'm ill.
Our groups are very different - my group does nowhere near as much planning as Alex's group and one of the guys in Alex's group is getting on his nerves, so I reckon I've got the better group after all :-D
Friday 11 April 2008 Last day of the week before I get to have a lie in!!! Can't fuckin wait. Think I've done pretty well considering I feel like crap. Although I have to say this week's gone pretty quickly for me. This might be ok after all...
Finished my unknown language journal that has to be handed in on Monday. Hopefully this'll leave the weekend free for me.
Saturday 12 April 2008 Alex spent the day doing his unknown language journal and has caught my cold, so we didn't play poker with Tasha - oh well, there's always next time. We could do with the money...
We printed off our journals at the locotorio and bought a cheapo folder from the China shop to present them in. I got myself a blue one and was thinking bout getting the pink one for Alex, but changed my mind at the last minute.
