sagrada familia (day time)
this is the gaudi side, the other side was made later but the whole thing still is being constructed with no real idea when it will be all finished I had my last test on thursday and that same night i was on a plane with aaron to barçelona. it felt like a different country. the first thing that struck me was the language, catalan. it is kind of like castillian spanish but it certainly is it´s own language. there was a lot i couldn´t figure out. Next the architecture felt very modern and the gaudi buildings and park guell were unlike anything i had seen before. it was weird being in sevilla where everything is older and then going to barçelona where modern buildings are all over.
we found a great hostel right off of las ramblas which is pretty much the main street in the older section of the city. we ended up meeting a guy from menorca, tom, who was really cool and showed us around to a few cafes and restaurants in the barrio. it was really nice having a spontaneous guide for a little while.
we saw almost every major site it felt like. the metro makes it so easy to get around. first we went to the sagrada familia, gaudi´s massive church that is still being constructed. it was totally unique.
the forms are so different from the gothic and renaissance styles in sevilla. gaudi architecture kind of reminds me of willy wonka. i can´t really describe it very well; you kind of have to just see it for yourself. we also went to casa batllo, la pedrera, and park guell to round out the major gaudi sites.
we spent a good amount of time at the palacio montjuic which was cool especially when the huge fountain started going off. at night they do all kinds of cool lighting effects which we missed but daytime was impressive nonetheless. the 92 olympic grounds are right around the corner from montjuic so we checked those out too. there was a cool antenna/tower thing that i forgot the name of, but i´ll put the picture up and maybe look up the name later.
one night we visited were torre agbar, which is just a big office building that lights up bright colors and then after went back to la sagrada familia to snap some night pictures.
by the time we got back to sevilla, it felt like we had seen just about everything that we could. we didn´t make it to
cool metal sculpture deal
we were wondering and thought it looked cool. it was hard to get in one picture because of the size. the picasso museum but after the massive exhibition at the reina sofia in madrid i felt like i had seen enough for the time being.
i played frisbee on sunday at the park and as i walked up there were cars everywhere. it turns out that on sunday there was a ¨fiesta contra el racismo y xenophobia¨a party against racism and xenophobia. i just started to laugh because as i walked through the park 99% of the people were spanish and i was about the only foreigner there. i told the frisbee team that they had to treat me extra nice that day because the fiesta was clearly just for me.
it´s starting to really feel like this semester is winding down. in one month i´ll be packing my stuff to go on my last trip and then home. 4 more weekends before school is over then about 2 weeks in greece, turkey, berlin, and a quick stop in milan takes us back where we started. then i come home. when it´s all written out it seems like a lot to still see and do but when you look at days on a calendar it doesn´t seem long
sculpture again
the lighting was cooler on the walk back. it was in plaça de las drassanes and is supposedly called ¨ones¨and was made by andreu alfaro. at all. I think I´m going to feel very mixed about going home. Yeah, I want to be home and have carpet, taco bell, green grass everywhere, friends, family, etc. But it´s going to be hard to leave too since i´m not exactly sure when/if i´ll be back to some of these places. like morrocco this weekend, i´ll probably never have an oppurtunity to see it like this ever again in my life. every once in a while i stop what i´m doing and just say to myself, ¨i´m actually in spain.¨it´s easy to forget once you get in the routine of school but i know that when i get home to the stuff that i´m really used to i´ll miss it. oh well, i figure i´m just lucky to be here at all and already it´s been an amazing experience and i just have to try and take advantage of every oppurtunity that i have left.
anyways, i´ll get some pictures upo soon hopefully. hasta luego

by the way ¨esta que te cagas¨is an expression that Tom
weird antenna thing
by the olympic grounds with some weird wire things in front, i dunno. thought it looked cool taught us and he said it´s slang for saying something is really, really good or cool. put politely it means something to the effect of ¨barçelona is so cool that one may loose control of their bowels.¨ literally it means ¨barçelona´s so cool you´ll shit yourself.¨
