The Arenas
The Arenas was a short walk from our AirB&B. Multiple entertainment and eating venues. Soooo!!!! We were sleeping peacefully when Kathy got up and said, "Its time to get up...times a-wastin'!. So she makes coffee and I get up and start through my morning routine. After much noise and beeping in the kitchen, she gives me a cup of coffee and we start to get dressed, I put on my watch and just happened to look at the time. IT WAS 1:15AM. I look at Kathy and ask "What time do you think it is dear?" She said, "Its 6:30am and time to get up and get started." I say, "No dear, its 1:15am." She says, "No way!" I say, "Lets go back to bed, we have all day. We don't need to get up at 1:15 in the morning." After some discussions on the technical side about how cell phones don't update if its on AIRPLANE MODE, She agreed. The sad part about it is that later that night, we cross paths with our host about 9:00pm at the market across the street.. We ask him how he was doing? He says, "I'm tired, didn't get much sleep last night." We hurried home to the our bedroom and closed the door. I hope he
Overseeing the City
One of the many views overseeing the city from Olympic Park. sleeps better tonight...and me too!
All in all, we had a wonderful day. We purchased tickets to the "Hop on/Hop off" bus and toured the highlights of the city. We did this in Dublin and found it is a wonderful way to determine where you wish to spend your time. Since you can get on and off as much as you wish, it is also a good way to move around the city for cheap. So we finally made it to the start of the tour about 10am (because we slept until 9:30am...I won't say why!) and then we took the tour bus on the Red Route which gave us numerous adminstration, and historical buidings as well as Olympic Park, and the shopping district. After touring the Red Route, we decided we would start our walk to the Olympic Park where Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympics. From there we walked to the harbor where we ate a late lunch at an ocean side (kinda) restaurant. This is where my negotiating skills paid off. When I asked Kathy if I could have a beer since we had walked about 5 miles, she said yes. I ask the bartender what size
Tiny House
After watching the tiny house series on tv, we thought we might try this one. What do you think? was their biggest beer. He said "One Liter." I smiled and ordered only one which time Kathy smiled approvingly. When the beer arrived, it was about the size of a small bucket. But I had only one beer for the 5 miles we walked.
The harbor of Barcelona was a fabulous place to visit. There were numerous ocean liners as well as large yachts and multitudes of sailboats. We reviewed the menus of several seafood restaurants before making a selection. Very pretty area. Later we walked in the Barcelona shopping area on our way home and almost found ourselves in the middle of the demonstrations for Catalan independence. This happens to be a hot polititcal topic in Barcelona. Barcelona and the surrounding area is known as Catalonia and is an autonomous, and somewhat properous, community of Spain in which a fair amount of taxes are funneled to Madrid. Today we were told they voted for independance and the vote passed. Several areas within the city were closed for demonstrations and celebrations. We had to be very careful not to get involved in these demonstrations.
It was a very good day ending in wine, cheese, and chocolates. 3 of
Now that's a beer
The small seaside cafe served good food with a friendly atmosphere. After walking a couple of hours, it was good to relax. the 4 major food groups. We finally made it home and am looking forward to tomorrow. In all, we covered about 7 or 8 miles.
