Last night we stayed in Getxo in a carpark on the beach front and today we biked into town to catch the Metro in to the Guggenheim. Awesome building designed by Frank Gehry. Here are a few photos from the day. Out... read more

This may surprise many of you but we have made an important discovery. Sometimes the descriptions given of places on the Internet do not lie. Indeed, sometimes the owners actually underestimate their own properties. Scoff you may but I have the photos and video to prove it. Our 'rustic retreat' which should, in the normal course of events read 'crappy old dump on a main highway complete with vermin', actually should say '3 storey manor overlooking magnificent valley with a wow factor of 10 but still situated close to really cool places'. Yesterday we set off from Barcelona at the crack of too early and had a pleasant 4 hour train ride to Logrono where we had arranged hire cars. The plan was that the hire car person was to meet us at the station holding ... read more

Just a quick entry tonight, we´re on a twenty minute time limit. We saw the Guggy today and it´s big and scaly in the ways you´ve always imagined. Inside was spectacular; the Anish Kapoor and Richard Serra engaging in ways we´ve never seen before. Hopefully we figure out how to do photos and you can see standing in front of the Eiffel ´toothpick´ Tower. Hola muchachos! Tomorrow we´re off to some place called Barcelona. Hmm... Adios!... read more

Jutros Stigosmo u Bilbao koj mi se ... read more

After packing and a great breakfast in the hotel, Mike took a deep breath and headed down into the garage to retrieve the car. After what seemed like a period of time more than sufficient to get the car, I went down to check out what was keeping Mike. I went down to the first level where Mike should have come up the ramp from the second level...90 degree turn on a ramp that must have been a 20% slope. All I heard was squealing tires and smoke/smell of clutch and brakes. All of a sudden a car came flying out of the ramp with an old man with his sweater over his shoulder push a car...it wasn't Mike! Next thing I know Mike comes flying up the ramp in one maneuver!!...very impressive; no dents or ... read more

On Monday we left rural Cantabria and took a short drive to Bilbao in the Basque Country. Along the way we had a quick visit to Santander which was packed due to alot of stranded travellers catching ferries back to the UK. We didn’t stay long as we weren’t a fan of the crowds, this gave us a bit more time to explore Bilbao’s city centre. Walking along the river was lovely. Bilbao’s most famous building is the Guggenheim museum which is a very unusual looking metallic building! Just near the Guggenheim we found a giant flower dog which was also a little bit strange but pretty. We had our first trip in a funicular (a funny little tram like thing) which takes you up steep hills. A few cities we have been in have these. ... read more

The sun does exist in el pais vasco! It came out to visit for our excursion to Bilbao on Friday and made things 10x better. We got to take a boat down the river/port to the Guggenheim Museum. The captain guy played us some 50 cent and AC/DC to get in the mood hahaha. The Guggenheim building was AMAZING to say the least. It's so weird to see things in person that you've seen numerous times in pictures. Last night there was yet ANOTHER fiesta (they have one every weekend I swear) called Los Caldereros. There are parades and street parties remembering the arrival of Hungarian gypsies in San Sebastian, and tons of people dress as gypsies-very random, but very fun. I have 4 days of school this week and then a 5 day "weekend" woot ... read more

3rd April '09: (“even stevens”) Namibian has conjured up a little jewel recently - literary flair is simply thriving on tour. Between extended periods of gnawing on his knuckles, polishing his curved horns and fangs.. Oh sorry, I got carried away there - his tail doesn’t, in fact, thrash like a wild scorpion. Namibian doesn’t even have a tail. Anyway, in the lead-up to his anecdotal blog entry, I’ll just casually mention that I have easily accessible photos of him shirtless and sexy in the heat of last summer. I’m sure he’d hate these saucy stills to be exhibited on the blog, so I’ll just leave the threat hanging in case he really is planning to take up the metaphorical cudgels - and run me through like a blackguard - in his entry. As promised then, ... read more
