Seville Cathedral Bell Tower
and of course the bells rang while we were up there right under them On Friday we finished up Toledo with a walk to the Santa Cruz museum and saw the El Greco exhibition. Definitely is paying off being 65 since they give reduced rates even though we are out of country. Interesting history of art development during El Greco's time. Headed off to the Cathedral supposedly one of Europe's best but the line-up for tix was horrendous and we wanted to get to Seville before dinner. Well in Spain that would have been enough time anyway since dinner starts around 9 pm. Off to Seville after doing a few detours because we bought gas and then took a wrong turn to get back on the Autovia. Programmed in our hotel for Seville and it looked simple. However... there are identical addresses and the one the Garmin kept taking us to was a little suburban area with single small car widths (we had to wait for one family to unload groceries in the street before we could go on). The address turned out to be someone's tiny home. Could not even take a picture since everyone was watching us as Garmin had insisted we'd arrived at our destination. Somehow we headed in to the city
Seville rooftops
Love taking these shots - not as good as my camera but you get the idea and found a main street that miraculously was the same street name. Unfortunately our hotel is way out on the outskirts. After unloading luggage we decided to bus in to the old town and have dinner but first we had to park the car in the secured lot. Well believe it or not Ross missed the garage door and turned down a one way alley and by the time we got to the main road we were almost in town so we decided to find a parking lot there and roam the town for awhile. It's a trick. The big blue signs with a P appear on wide streets that lead you further and further into a maze of skinnier and skinnier streets. To get out of one street we had to fold the mirrors back and inch our way forward. After many circles we found an actual parking garage. We carefully noted where we parked. Walked aimlessly (another way of saying we got lost) around and found a great tapas place but we ordered one too many so no ice cream for me. Walked and walked. All of sudden Ross was stopped and then limping - he had stubbed
his toe - I laughed until I saw all the blood and the nail almost off - then I was ready to puke. He hobbled back to the car and got to the hotel by 11 pm and then medic Diane went into action (polysporin and a bandaid which is like major surgery for Ross. - I will not include the photo of the toe).
Today we took the bus - no driving! Of course we got off at the wrong stop but it was close enough. Lined up for 30 min and then explored Alcazar - very impressive palace. Lunched there and then walked around carefully keeping to the map. Next visited the cathedral and saw Columbus' tomb and climbed the 300 foot ramp up the bell tower. Easier than the steps up Notre Dame. Great pic op. Walked back slowly (feet aching by this time) in the direction of the bus stop trying to find a spot for dinner. First 2 places we sat down did not serve food yet (it was 7 pm). Finally found one that served food but it took over 45 min to come and when we tried to order most things weren't
Sails
good use of canvas for shading streets because it does get HOT ready to be ordered yet. Got a plain paella - good. Found the bus stop easily and off at the right stop. Early bed tonight and we head for the White Hill area tomorrow.
