Travelling back into Spain, although I bemoaned that Portugal did not say ‘hello’ when we drove in it certainly said goodbye and thank you for visiting! We’d loved our travels there.
Seville was next on our agenda, we were rather dubious because of the heat, but it was less than 2 hours driving, and right on our route so we dived in.
At times our travelling may seem glamourous with all the sights we are so fortunate to see, but travelling by camper is certainly tricky when visiting cities. We’d found a safe secure parking place with good bus access to the city...fab! downside was it was basically a warehouse. We were persuaded to camp inside due to severe heat, but boy was it hot in there! Not wanting to sit in a car park, we decided to head straight into the city.
The bus flew in! there are wide boulevards, lots of public transport, not so many cars but a great deal of electric scooters whizzing around, and there was so much greenery, they really care about this city. A sign on the roundabout as we hopped off the bus was reading a temperature of 45 degrees!
This was 4.30pm.
We had a little wander around the historic centre, getting lost in the old streets, but it was just exhausting, so we found a Red Bus tour and orientated ourselves with a 45 minute wizz around the city, with rather a bland commentary. However, a cooler evening stroll in the Parque de Maria Luisa with the beautiful but slightly crazy Plaza de Espana, some fabulous flamenco dancing, paella and a litre of beer we felt much more convivial.
Overnight I’d managed to secure some tickets for Real Alcazar, a beautiful palace right in the heart of Seville. Moorish architecture in parts, used in the filming of Game of Thrones. Stunning everywhere you looked, the tiles, the carvings and the views into the many and varied outside terraces, water features and gardens. Although busy it felt tranquil, as there is so much space. The Palace had undergone many transformations, since the 900s and had a colourful history, Dom Pedro had his harem here, Perdro 1 killed the Sultan of Granada, and Carlos and the beautiful Isabel of Portugal were married here, now the Spanish Royal family have their apartments, I wonder if they are as colourful?
Most amazing of our visit to Seville I persuaded Kim to partake in Tapas. Kim doesn’t share, and doesn’t get the idea of Tapas, but sitting outside a busy little café, helped by a friendly waiter we had some lovely dishes, and could, and probably should have stayed there all afternoon. Instead, we walked the new shopping areas and took another ride on the Red bus around the city. It’s a lovely, surprising city and I would love to have experienced more, but its too damn hot!
