I took advantage of my hostal's free breakfast this morning around 8:30. When I was finished eating, I got my bags, checked out, and made my way to the bus station. Once I got to the bus station, I paid for my ticket and waited to get on the bus. The Alsa bus for 10:30 pulled up in my gate saying it was headed to Granada. I put my suitcase under the bus and got on board, sitting in what I thought was my seat. Luckily, no one else was sitting next to me. I enjoyed the bus ride listening to a lot of English people speak and read more of the Lord of The Rings. What I have begun to find out is that the Lord of the Rings are three wonderful, addicting books. I'm almost on page 100 and Frodo hasn't even left the shire yet. Before I knew it, 13:00 came and I was in Granada. I got my luggage and went outside the bus station, taking out my directions to see where to go. I tried to look for the garden on my map, but I couldn't see one. I had this feeling that I wasn't in
the right place. I decided to go ask the information desk, and then if that failed, take an expensive taxi. I stood in line at the information desk until it was my turn and asked the woman how to get to my hostal. She took out a map, told me to take a bus and then how to walk from that bus stop. I said thank you and reached for the map when she told me it would be one euro. I reluctantly paid for the map, knowing it would be worth one dollar and 30 cents. I got on to one of the buses she said to and tried to hold on to the railing. The bus driver was a crazy driver and ended up slinging my all over the place. That ended up not being an issue as more and more people started to get on the bus. Pretty soon I was surrounded by people buffers. Of course I couldn't tell when my stop was, so I road on until I couldn't breathe anymore, and then pushed my way through the crowd off of the bus. I looked at the map and realized I got off about two
stops too late. So I walked, following the maps at the bus stops, looking for a cathedral. This cathedral was supposed to be my stop, so I was looking for a big cathedral. Once I found it, I realized that it is actually hidden from the view of the street. I was getting tired and ready to give up so I turned on a street to see where it was. It ended up being the street I needed to turn on to. I laughed at the reminder of how little faith even though God has been there to provide each and every time. I easily found my hostal and checked in. The girl at the front transferred from Madrid, so she tried to show me all the places I should go. For her second week in Granada, she is doing pretty well. I roamed around for a little while, exploring the city center. As I walked along the streets I smelled the aromas of various spices and saw the pride of Spanish and Muslim heritage intertwining and flowing throughout the streets. I ditched my map and just wandered around the streets filled with beauty, stuck in time. Once I realized
how much time I let slip through my fingers, I started to walk back to my hostal. Once I got there, I met my roommate from Japan. She speaks a lot of Spanish and a little bit of English. We talked uses words from both languages and went to go look for a supermarket together. When we got back from the supermarket, I went down to the kitchen to eat my food. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to go and see the Alhambra. You have to buy the tickets in advance, so I will see if I will be able to. But who knows what tomorrow will bring.
