We finally got to sleep in today! Veronica split the groups for meetings today; group 2 didn’t have to be there until 11:30. She showed us the second CCA (Central College Abroad) office then talked to us about the different options for service learning. I’m still not sure what I’m going to be doing here. If I do the internship, I have to drop one of my classes that I’m signed up for, and I don’t want to do that. I already had to drop one as it is. I can only take five courses including my phonetics class and Granada seminar. I signed up for Spanish civilization and culture, Spanish literature, and Italian. I may end up just doing service learning like working at a soup kitchen or I could take some other classes like flamenco or Spanish cooking. We’ll see how it turns out.
After our meeting, we had Intercambio. This is where four of us are grouped with a Spanish student to do activities together. Our Intercambio student is named Fatima. I’m going to like her; she is really cute and sweet, and we talked very easily. We sat in groups introducing ourselves at first, and then
we all left for tapas. If you don’t know what tapas are or have never had them, you’re missing out. It’s a huge cultural thing in Spain to go out to a tapas bar to have a drink and a free appetizer with friends. We went to Tapas Sol. I was a little surprised because it was so small and there were about twenty of us crowded in there. But we sat in our groups and just chatted while we had our drinks and tapas. I had Tinto de Verano, kind of like a sangria with wine and something like lemonade. We got two tapas: one was a plate with bread, jamón (ham), and a cheese spread and a small potato with a delicious red sauce, and the other was a slice of tortillas españolas (basically like an egg and potato omelet) and a slice of cheese with some olive oil and herbs sprinkled on it with a walnut and a small slice of bread. Everything was so delicious!
We planned our next meeting and left tapas. Fatima had to go study for some exams. I went back home for a while then we headed back to the Centro
for class. I am doing so much walking here! It’s about a mile to the Centro, and I walk there at least two times a day, plus it’s uphill. No wonder all the women have nice legs since they walk everywhere! Courtney was going to the post office with Malissa, so Alissa and I headed back home. When Alissa got to her house, I realized I had not brought my keys, so I couldn’t get into the apartment. Courtney and I always walk together, and I had assumed we would be together and she would have her keys. I tried texting Courtney but it didn’t go through. I didn’t know what to do so I decided to sit in a café and watch for her to walk by. I tried calling her a few times, and realized I had the wrong number because a Spanish lady answered. I felt awkward sitting at the bar, so I ordered a Queso Manchega. I found out that was a type of cheese. I didn’t read the menu closely or I would have known that it was a bocadillo (sandwich). So I had a sandwich with only bread and cheese. I wasn’t even hungry
and we were eating in an hour, but I didn’t know what else to do. Courtney finally walked by and let me in. From now on, I’m bringing my keys everywhere!
