Logarska Dolina - T K Perk
Today started slightly overcast, but looked as if it might clear up later on.
At breakfast we said goodbye to Stephanie, Daniel and Gabriela, who were flying back to Stanstead this afternoon and thence onwards to Shrewsbury.
With the mist beginning to clear we set out for our expedition to Matkov Kot Škaf. The walk for the first two hours is basically all downhill on forestry tracks. We met the farmer from Matk, this time he was herding a flock of sheep from a lower pasture up to the fields around his farm. This time we were able to wish him ‘good day’, which seemed to please.
We passed yet another farm on our journey downhill and finally made it to the valley bottom and the dried out riverbed. There was a mountain hut there with benches outside, which seemed a good place to rest and have a cup of tea (Clare had brought a flask of hot water with her).
Fortified, we started to climb upwards, using the riverbed as our path. After about 20 min’s we started to come across large boulders in the way, but not deterred we continued upwards, actually
climbing over these great rocks, hoping we would come across this Škaf.
Another 20 min’s went by and still no Snow Hole, so Clare struck on alone to see if she could locate the hole as it was becoming increasingly difficult to get my new knee to bend sufficiently to climb up the rocks. When she did not reappear I thought it best to continue, fortunately after a further 10 min’s I heard a shout to my left, she had found a proper path.
All we could now see were scree fields and high mountains, so we thought blow the snow hole, and headed back down the valley, using the forestry track. It followed the river course and brought us back down to near were we had previously stopped! To cap it all opposite was a sign directing would be walkers on a path to the Škaf, on the right hand side of the riverbed. We had missed this sign and had gone mountaineering way past where we needed to be, but it was an adventure!!
To console ourselves we had another cup of tea, we had spent over two hours climbing rocks and boulders up a riverbed, which took

Lunch! with obligatory tea us about 25 min’s to walk back down using the track and to cap it all, it was the wrong side. So sadly, we never did find out what a Snow Hole was.
The problem with walking down to the bottom of the valley is you need to get back up again. So off we trudged. It took a further 2 hours to get back to Perk, climbing all the time, we were completely shattered by the time we arrived back.
So to the end of another day and supper. Soup (Chicken stock and noodles) followed by a salad with egg vinaigrette and sausages. These were made on the farm from there pigs and were more like a wild boar sausage from home, quite gamey but really delicious.
At 6.55pm every evening there is the weather forecast for Slovenia on Slovenia 1. The weather forecast chap was very formal, not a smile anywhere. However the weather tomorrow should be cloudy here in Logarska and sunny in Breg and about 21°C.
We had a further chat with Nea, and this time found out she was going to see her 84 year old mother tomorrow morning, who was not well. I think

We were about to climbe up there she had had a fall last December, but that got a bit lost in translation.
