Tama ... read more

Hello people I know some of you have waited for this post, and here it is finally. I just arrived in Vilnius 3 days ago and i can say only that this city is as beautiful as last year, even more beautiful, and i was even more impressed by it then the last time. I left Romania Last week and to get here i had to go to Hungary and than to Slovakia from Slovakia to Czech Republic, Poland and after that to Lithuania, you might say that it is a great experience to pass all this countries, but really it is not because i was first in a train for 20 hours and after that in some buses and the only time i was out of them was when i had to change them ... read more

On arrival at the course the first comment Tim made was how hard the course is. With 10 up gates, we normally only have up to six in Australia it was going to be very demanding. Tim and Tom did really well till gate 12 where they got washed slightly down stream and got stuck on rocks. This took them about 30 seconds to clear, whcih did not make them happy. They had a roll at gate 20 but managed to get the gate. Overall a pretty good performance on one of the toughest courses in the world, finishing in 18th place. The team head to Bovec, Slovenia on Monday and we head to Budapest tonight. ... read more

Today was all about Slalom Canoeing. The Slovak Open is part of the World Series of Canoeing. Sydney was the 1st race, Bratislava the 2nd and the 3rd is the Dutch. Canoeing is huge in Brastislava with current Olympic and World Champions residing here. Tim & Tom went into todays race a little under done with Tim still recovering from a virus, so expectations were not huge although hopeful. Their 1st run was very solid with no touches and had them in 16th place (top 20 through to final) Although they had a few problems at gate 20, they were not alone. 2nd run was much faster than the first although the "Crash Dummies" decided that they would hit 7 gates on the way down, this resulted in their run tim being much the same ... read more

We arrived by train into Bratislva after 3 flights. It is probably fair to say that our first impression was not the best one. The train station was a dump to say the least!!!! However things improved when we found our hotel. We are Staying at the Marrol which is very nice. They greeted us with a local beer while we were checking in! Very much appreciated. Our room is small but very nice with everything you could wish for, flat screen TV, even a free mini bar and the usual selection of home made "European Movies" After checking in we decided we would go out and watch the boys train, and after some consultation with the helpful hotel staff it was decided that the bus to Cunovo was the best option. So we set ... read more

After a good night sleep in the berg we got out of bed early so we could go paddling before our long car trip to Brat. Paddling was good fun......was awsome to get back on that course. After paddling we set off from the course to Brat which is a good 6 hour car trip but it wasnt too bad as we were enjoying the pleasent scenery. It Brat there is no such thing as pleasent scenery...its pretty much the biggest hole on the earth but the paddling is good. Paddled 3 times so far and have paddled resonably well which is good. The course is pretty big and has the biggest last drop you have ever seen, its nickname is "Niagra Falls" there has been some fair carnage on it including mark breaking a paddle. ... read more

So from Vienna, Sarita took off back to Budapest, Rebecca was heading off somewhere else in Europe, so Amanda, Rich and I took off back to Bratislava for a looksie around before we were to fly out 2 days later. We train over from Vienna, which took about 2 and half hours, fairly comfortable seats, especially how we were in a cabin to ourselves. Passport control was a little weird with 'soldier' looking officials walking around, and being not overly friendly and blunt but it was all ok. Got to Bratislava, it looked a little like a third world country, and no one really spoke english. Found a number for a hostel, rang and booked ourselves in, then off to find the bus to get there. Driver pointed to a booth where you have to ... read more

Bratislava Europe » Slovakia » Bratislava By Kurt DiApril 5th 2007Kurt & Di We visited Bratislava over the Easter long weekend, and had the first sunshine that we'd had in over a month - and we soaked it up! We stayed in a little apartment in the Old Town that we rented off a young couple. They picked us up from the airport on a Friday night at after 11pm, which was so nice of them. The apartment was in a perfect location in the middle of the Old Town. We spent the weekend wandering around, eating a stack, and taking advantage of the cheap beer and wine. Highlights were sitting in the sun at the Castle, which overlooked the whole town - fantastic v... read more

(June 29 through July 1, 2006) June 29 The morning was rainy, and the ride was slow towards Bratislava. Not much could be seen through the windows of the train and the haziness of the rain. Green fields and not much else. The stops the train made were sporadic and seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Only one person would get off, and another would get on. We arrived late morning, to the Bratislava-Petrzalka train station on the south part of the city. Though the rain had let up, some fog had been left over, and not much could be seen beyond some distance. Only a handful of people got off the train, and going through customs was desolate, as even the two cops monitoring the flow of people were bored and seemed out ... read more

Tuesday February 27. Left Komano and followed the north bank of the Danube for about 50 kms before crossing the river at a Hungarian town with a very striking castle on a hill overlooking the river. Unfortunnately I didn't write down the name in my jounal. I must look it up. It is a sad fact that one day does so often merge into the next. I followed the bend of the Danube until I reached the suburbs and the traffic. The speed and aggression were unnerving. I saw a terrible accident with a red family car reduced to the size of a domestic fridge (see photograph) underneath a rather small lorry. I stayed the next two nights at the Papillon Hotel on the Buda side of the city, a very nice hotel on a steep ... read more
