Although I never intended to stop here when I planned this trip, or when I changed my plans to avoid air travel 4 weeks ago, I'm glad I did. My first visit to Bratislava - 6 years ago - was a whirlwind that left a general impression but little substance. I now have that substance, and for that I am grateful. Bratislava is not a huge town for sightseeing - most of what you'll want to see and remember is in the Old Town, which you can meander through and be done with in about an hour. Today we got up early and opened the breakfast room at 7:00. It is easy to tell when the room is about to open: “Muzac” from the 70s starts to play and the doors open. Today we heard “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Danny Boy”, and theme from “Exodus.” We had a nice breakfast and tried a couple of new items: a dill cream cheese, a piece of lox with an olive, and a creamy cheese cake dessert with a coconut crust. We headed for the Kelceti train station on Bus #7 (found the stop last night) and arrived there in 10 minutes. We purchased our tickets to Bratislava, Slovakia, with an hour to wait. Well where do I begin? In september I went on seminar with AIESEC so I could go abroad with them for an internship because I taught that before I settle and get an office job I should travel some more (I was never the one who could be at one place without moving too long). And about a month ago I got matched through AIESEC database with the Plant a Tree foundation in Bangkok. My first taught amazing Iam going to move to Bangkok but next morning my reaction was Bangkok really????? What have I got myself into. Slovakia-what? Yes, I think many people are wondering are wondering why I venture to this random country. But that’s what travelling is all about right? Going to random different places! I bet most people I know can’t say that they’ve been to Slovakia, so ha, I have one up on you ;) Besides that it’s also broke up my trip to Krakow, Poland. So this was really the official first time of me training it alone. Daunting? Just a little. When you don’t speak the language and don’t know how the whole system works, it’s even more confusing.
