Alvados Youth Hostel and our rental Fiat

We packed up, checked out of the hostel and took the Metro from Pracoes stop to the Red Line, then on to Lisboa Oriente where we needed to pick up our rental car. The metro leg went smoothly enough and we easily located the Avis rental car office. They we had reservations, but we asked if we could pick it up a bit later so we wouldn't be so rushed to get back here from our last stop in Portugal, Monsantos. The guy said sure, no problem, you can pick it up as late as 1pm. So, we walked through the station and did some supermarket browsing, then on down to the oceanside. I have had one of the most eventful weeks so far! There are so many things that I want to say, I hope I can get it all down for you :). First things first, I will talk about what I promised I would speak about this past week. Thursday, October 2nd, I had the amazing oppourtunity to go see a professional soccer (or "futebol") game in Lisbon, and man was it AMAZING! It took us two hours to get there, and it was so worth the trip :). We arrived and rushed to the one of the biggest malls in Europe to grab a small bit to eat.. Wow, I can't believe its been almost a WHOLE week since I last blogged! Time is flying by much faster than I have thought, and so far, its been going really good... I have had some personal issues, such as homesickness, but very minimal. Also, with my family... but I think its just customs, getting used to one another kind of things... don't worry about me though, I have a feeling things will be turning around very soon for me :). First off, I want to let know all know how things have been going these past several days! :D Not much has happened at the beginning of the week... So soon, right? Haha, I am writing this entry at 9am because I don't start school today until 10:40am :D ... woo hoo! Anyway, I wanted to write about my weekend... Friday, I went to my first (well, technically 2nd) portuguese party! It was my first classmate party ... one of my guyfriends from school turned 18, and he had a party at my family's restaurant/café, "O Caseiro". There was a lot of drinking (I had no part in this, as well as a couple other guys ... we just watched the others be obnoxious!), eating, and laughing... He recieved a couple of gifts, and then they shoved his face into his lovely cake! (Which isn't much like american b-day cakes... Hey all!! I am really sorry about my delay on writing here... I have been CRAZY busy these past few weeks, such as orientation, staying with my cousins, and then finally with my family! First of all, my trip to NYC was really short, easy, and not too difficult. As for waiting for other AFSers and my room card... that was NOT fun. Besides that, I met some amazing people that were going to other countries such as South Africa, Ghana, Italy, and Spain! There are 11 other Americans in Portugal, and they all (of course) are younger than I, but they are all very kind and worldly.
