A year ago I moved from Cambridge to London ... I knew then that in a year's time I would either move into my own place on the outskirts of London or move abroad. Certain circumstances have made that choice for me and I have ended up moving to Portugal. Myself and a close friend travelled together from South England, taking a Ferry from Portsmouth to Santander in Spain (25 hours) and then driving from there to Tavira (9 hours driving with a night stop in Spain). The 1st night in Spain we were stopped by police for walking down random places in the dark ... luckily they didn't spot us taking pictures of people's houses (they had scarecrow monkeys which looked scary). When we landed into Tavira (one of the most beautiful towns in the ... read more

The Algarve is Portugal's most popular holiday destination due to the clean beaches (approximately 200 km of them), the cool, unpolluted water, and the facts that it is relatively cheap, very safe and overall welcoming. English is spoken at most resorts. The Algarve is rich in culture and diversity. If you are looking for fast paced resorts or a calm tranquil setting either is attainable. The entire region is approx.5400sq km and is graced with over 100 different beaches, each unique in its own way. If you are into nature the choices are many from the Ria Formosa to Monchique mountain, from Caldeirão mountains to Sagres cape, in fact there are over 30 hiking trails (as per official Turismo de Portugal guide books). If you are a golf lover then you have come to the right ... read more

The time came, that we had to leave Lisboa. We moved about 250 kilometres to the south in Portugal to a small place called Villamoura. We keep mostly away from the Freeways but that is not always possible. You see more on the small roads. We had a nice time when we stopped for a coffee at a roadhouse. There we had some fun with the Girl that served us and long distance drivers. The Girl spoke English, she worken in America before. Our family Hotel near Villamoura was also a Spa and health club. The first night we were in a double bedroom. At our age that is not comfortable. Okay for the young couples that are there for the weekend, that need only half the bed, but with our seize, it is a bit ... read more

Hello Hello! Sorry that I have been slacking, it has been quite the week. Last week was pretty uneventful given that we had finals and what not, but we made time to go out Thursday after all our tests to spend one last night with the kids who were only here for one month. I love the nightlife here, it's crazy, yes, but its also so so so..... energizing? I don't really know how to describe it. We left for Portugal friday, and I had the best weekend I have had so far. Portugal is definitely on the top of my list, after Granada of course. We stayed in Lagos, literally right on the bach and it was gorgeous. There are all these rocks that form Grottos and the waves break on them and turn colors. ... read more

Day 2: Seville to Lagos Day two in Seville began with a walk through the local art market where I bought some beautiful bougainvillea earings and admired the artwork of such clever people. I love drawing and painting but I am not terribly good at it. We luckily chose one of the most interesting days to see Seville as it was the official celebration of Corpus Christie which is to celebrate the bread being the body of christ. The coming together of so many local children, teenagers, musicians and elderly was a sight to see as there was at least a 100 people in the procession which slowly made its way to the entrance of the local church. There was a giant float which was carried by 15-20 people underneath. You could only see their feet ... read more

We are at the end of week three and are finally starting to get the warmer weather we have been waiting for- our high so far is about 34 degrees. We have had our first experience of driving with no air conditioning along the hot highway with all our windows open and our first night of trying to sleep in the hot box of the van. After leaving Islares we headed further along the Spanish coastline and lucked out finding a beautiful little town called Llanes. Llanes is part of what is known as the 'Green Coast’, which is known for its outstanding shorelines and mountains. The town has a pretty little port and the stunning Picos de Europa mountain range as its backdrop. After finding a nice little free camping spot by the water we ... read more

***WARNING-THE CONTENT OF THIS BLOG IS RIDICULOUSLY SILLY** When someone asks you to be their best man it is an amazing honour and with that honour comes certain responsibilities, like organising the stag night. This year I have been asked to be best man by two of my closest friends and this is stag night number two. I have censored the content of this blog as Travel Blog is a family show lol but to be honest nothing too bad happened anyway.......honest! When we were younger Peter and I went on many lads’ holidays to some of Europe’s top clubbing destinations. Eastern Europe seems to be a common destination for stag nights nowadays but Peter wanted one last ‘clubbing holiday’ before his wife to be officially locks him up lol. I managed to find a 3 ... read more

Faro is a typical town of the south of Europe. A lot of buildings are white, with cobblestone streets. The center is really lovely, a lot of shops, but the way the marketplace is turn, it's really enjoyable in walk in! You arrive to the marina, a large place, with storks which build their nests on street lamp or buildings, Then, you have the historical center, surrounded by high ramparts. Inside you have a lot of old white buildings, it's gorgeous, but unfortunately it's not maintained at all...Some buildings are in poor conditions... But when you arrive to the main place, it's wonderful, with a lot of orange trees and it's very clean. You have several statues, and the main building, a church that you can visit, with the bones chapels behind who were build with the ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 47 Limoges, France. Salamanca, Spain and into the Algarve, Portugal. It's a long way. It's a long way from our home in Norfolk, UK, to Morocco. It's certainly a long way, driving by motorhome! And it's a long way when the planned Sea France sailing, Dover to Calais, is cancelled (the fact that the Receiver has been appointed may have something to do with it but nobody told us) and we ended up sailing, half an hour later than planned, transferred by DFDS to Dunkerque! But what the heck. It's a chance to escape from the cold and damp of wintery England for a while. A chance to visit pastures new, family in France, and revisit some of our favourite haunts en route. First stop, to see daughter Sonia and her family ... read more

Our trip to Lagos was one that I will never forget. Before we left, things were chaotic. The original plan was for Hayley, Devin, Susan, Meghan, and myself to rent a car from Jerez and drive it to Lagos where we would meet up with our friend Tegan. The day before we were suppose to depart, Susan tells me that she decided not to go. She made a few excuses but none of them were valid. Susan’s lack of consideration created a huge problem for the rest of us because Susan is the only one of us who is over the age of 21 and therefore, the only person who could sign for the car. We were angry, frustrated, and upset that she put us in this situation less than 24 hours before we were suppose ... read more
