When we arrived here in Portugal two weeks ago, we did not see the best side of the country. From the window of our train we seem a country side that was dry and in some parts a dust bowl. Where the only places where it was green was where there was a water source of some kind.
But now, we have seen a different side of the country. Yes, it is very dry and dusty in parts, but there are many beautiful sites. There are many unusual plants and flowers here. I am amazed at the amount of bamboo there is. There are fields of it just growing wild, and then there are great big palm trees and catechus’! It is truly amazing.
We have been to the Lagos Zoo, to the water slides, to the go-cart track, and today we went on a 4 hour quad ride. Hannah doubled with Nick and Marcus was my co-polit. The quad ride took us on the highway, I was driving a quad down a highway at 65 kms! That was wild! I think I ate a bug!
We went along these back roads where it
was so dusty, at times you could not see the quad in front of you. We stopped a few times along the way and Marcus was able to drive the quad when it was not a main road. I think that tomorrow I will feel a little stiff from the ride.
Yesterday we went to this beach that was awesome for bodysurfing, the waves were continues and at times quite high. The water was nice, not to hot and not to cold, just right to keep you cool on a sunny Portuguese Friday afternoon.
The other night we went to dinner at this place called, Adega da Marina. This place is very popular with both locals and tourist, there is always a line up to get in, but if you go early you can get in quickly. I had clams that were cooked in an amazing broth! I don’t think that I have ever had clams that good.
The wine was not bad either. But I wish that I had someone to share a glass of wine with, Hannah gives me a hard time if I have more than one! So, I don’t partake in wine that
often.
We wish that our friends Patrick and Feranada were here with us to show us more, but it could not be helped that they are not here. They are in our thoughts and prayers everyday!
We only have one more week left here and then it will be back to Canada, back to school for the kids and back to work for Nick and I. It has been fun, but like all good things our vacation will come to an end soon!
OK, I will right again soon! Hope all is well with everyone and that you have been having a great summer too!
Love CK!
