Oh what a long, long day!
Flight from JFK to Berlin wasn't bad. I never sleep on flights, so that part was a little sucky. The food on the plan started great... and then I don't know what I had - probably the coleslaw - but I felt beyond ill. Hah. Great way to start.
I found in interesting how everyone presumed I was German on the flight... I don't think I look overly German? Each steward(ess) addressed me in German first, followed by blank looks on my part. Even the girl sitting beside me started this epic convo... and I"m lie... English...? Francais? Haha.
Landing in Berlin, it was raining and I still felt a little off, so there was no big desire to explore. I did however putter around the Reichstag area and walk up to the Brandenburg Tor. Felt nice to be back in Germany - I'm excited to come back later in my trip and actually spend some time here again.
Next I took the train from Berlin to Szczecin, which was about 2.5 hours. I slept this time around, no getting around that. Super comfy chairs too - good job DB. Of
course, no one spoke English so I had no idea if I was allowed to sit wherever... but no one bothered me.
Arriving in Szczecin is where the real fun began! I had 15min layover to pick up my tickets for the train, plus another one later on. I totally would have been ok if not for the fact I couldn't find the stupid train station!! There were tracks all over the place, but of course I went the wrong way which meant I had to back track. I then went to pick up my tickets and they speak no English (I got a very stern, "NEIT" or however you spell no) so I gave them a translated sentence the train company had sent me haha. They were smart to do so.
With my ticket in hand, I booked it to catch my train. Running up stairs with a travel backpack is not something I would recommend. But, I made it.
Funny thing is, I wasn't even positive it was the right train. But thank God it was haha. And off we went! I sat with a friendly older gentlemen who understood "may I sit" and yet
tried to have a deep convo with me in Polish. Yah? Yah?
This train wasn't quite as comfortable, but the seats still did the job. It was warm though, and they didn't announce stops, so once we started getting close, I was a little nervous. I got off at the right spot though, and dragged myself to my hostel. Oh backpack... we have been thru so much.
Of course, I went a few blocks too far and then couldn't find the street. (The street name had been covered by a tree branck. Go figure). I asked two different policemen if they spoke English. Head nods. Great, I think asked where this street was, and they both claim to have no idea. IT WAS 2 BLOCKS AWAYS DIMRODS.
I finally found it! And now I'm sitting in bed, catching up with people and munching away on cheerios. That's the way to do it.
