Today was a free day in Warsaw before the tour officially began. Susan and I planned to explore the old town and visit Warsaw Castle. While the tour would later make a stop there, ti would not go inside the castle as we planned to do. Castle Inn

Castle Inn. Set in a sixteenth century townhouse in Old Town (Stare Miasto). The original tenant house house was built before 1478. Rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century and given the name Mansjonaria. Adaptive reuse as a hotel in 1991. Świętojańska 2. Part of Historic Centre of Warsaw. St. Anne's Church = Kościół św. Anny. Founded in 1454 and rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. The tower was added in 1582. Krakowskie Przedmieście 68. "...Church of St. Anne (Kościól św. Kamienica Andrzeja Strońskiego

Classical tenant house erected by Andrzej Stroński in the 18th Century. A variety of commercial establishments have been located in the ground floor. Rebuilt in 1947-1948. The building has always been mixed use commercial and residential. Nowy Świat 1. DSC_0012

Charles de Gaulle Monument

Pomnik Generała Charles'a de Gaulle'a. In commemoration of de Gaulle's assistance to Poland in 1919-1920 during the Polish Soviet War as a member of the French Military Mission to Poland. Rondo Charles’a de Gaulle’a. DSC_0033

National Museum in Warsaw

National Museum in Warsaw = Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie. Opened in 1938. Aleje Jerozolimskie 3. DSC_0026

Monument to the Partisans

Pomnik Partyzanta. Installed in 1962. The monument represents a wounded partisan supported by a woman holding an olive branch in her outstretched hand, in the manner of the Pieta. Ronda de Gaulle. DSC_0025

A friend of ours is going to Poland this week. She will be visiting Warsaw and Lublin (which we did not visit) principally to do research for a book she is writing. We've encouraged her to also visit Krakow, probably the most beautiful city in Poland.
