Since I reached my hotel in the evening after a long day of driving, I did not do much except have dinner of a delicious salad, a glass of wine, and walk out to the nearby city parks to take some evening photos. Then I took a nice long hot shower and went to bed in my cool room. I was a little disappointed in the room because I specifically booked one that had photos of a hanging chair - something for me to relax and read in. There was no such chair. Oh well. Otherwise, Hotel Norge by Scandic was fantastic. It was right in the middle of town, the room was nice and spacious, the restaurant was nice, and the breakfast buffet was incredible.
The next day, I enjoyed my breakfast buffet, with various delicious options. I also had spoken to my dad the night before, and he always remembers the delicious buffets in Europe and especially in Scandinavia. So, I took some photos for him. This was to be my easy day, so I was a bit lazy after breakfast, but eventually mid morning I got up planning to just walk to the old town area and
look around. However, it was a bit too early and I decided to go ahead and make my way to the hiking trail to the top of the hill for views over Bergen. I had previously watched a few Youtube video recommendations for Bergen hikes. I saw one with a girl who lived here and she liked to hike up to Tippetue viewpoint, rather than the more popular funicular to Floyen. The walk up was very pleasant, though quite steep! Stairs start in town, or you can walk along the short switchbacks, as I saw many local women doing, most likely their daily exercise. Then once you get to the park, the path is continuously inclined on long runs through the trees. It was very peaceful and i enjoyed listening to my audio book. I saw quite a few people on the trail, though it was by no means crowded. And just as the girl had said, I reached the view point - it is a short set of stairs down from the main trail and you may not initially see it if you do not look around. There were two benches with views right over the city. It was
perfect and I was indeed all by myself. I enjoyed the view for about 20 minutes, before deciding just to head back, rather than continue up (just a little at this point) and hike more to the other side. I did not have a ticket to the funicular and I was unsure about the hike back down otherwise. My out and back hike was about 5 km.
I went back to the hotel for a light lunch and just hang out for a while. I think I even took a nap. Then I went back to the old town area, which was significantly more lively at this time, around 4pm. I walked around the back and saw the old town museum area, which was shutting down of course. Then I went to a local restaurant for dinner. It was mostly empty indoors. I was not starving, but I ordered a scallop appetizer dish, a big beer, and for dessert I had a little tiramisu thing. It was around 6:30 pm at this point and I slowly walked back to the hotel and went to my room to pack, shower, and get some rest as I expected the next day's
roadtrip would be busy.
Bergen is lovely city, very walkable, lots of options, and seemed pretty lively in the evenings. However, I think it was still the off season at this point and I could feel that things were very slow. Actually, this was perfect for me as I was more than happy to catch up on rest, phone calls, plans, and photos. It was perfect.

Fairy tale forest
That's a real fairy tale forest. It looks like it could be filled with trolls and elves and I don't know what. I am actually going to visit Bergen in August. We have a short Norway trip planned then. /Ake
