On our trip, we scheduled two nights in Balestrand. I am so glad we did. After a week in Copenhagen, fitting in every attraction and filling every minute - and then a hectic journey from Denmark to Norway, we needed some downtime. Since it's the weekend, I also decided not to work from here either, but to do a bit of "digital detox". My son is watching me write this but it's the first time I've used the computer since we got here. It all started with a four hour fast ferry from Bergen. We were up early to get on it, but once we boarded, my relaxation could begin. We were on our way. Soon we were surrounded by gorgeous vistas on all sides. I can't describe them and do them justice. They are so ... read more

Oslo to Balestrand While we have grown significantly in our travel skills and resilience in the face of new challenges over the last 8 months, there are two scenarios that continue to make Mike and I raise the “uggh” flag: getting up ‘n out really early and long distance train travel. The first is just plain desire for sleep and a leisurely life - early mornings make you kind of on edge, you’re not completely on all cylinders so decisions and reactions are fuzzy and finally, sleep is good. Really good. The second has nothing to do with us being on a train, in fact they’re really fun for the most part - you get to see the scenery (unlike planes), they’re almost always on time (unlike planes again) and they go in a pretty ... read more

Off and hiking was the second full day of my travels.....and yes....I am jet lagged.....but you can sleep when you are dead. As Esther drove the car to the spot where we were going to climb down to I took an hour to meditate amongst the rolling mountains that completely surrounded me. I took in the sound of the waterfall that had a sound that at first upon waking I thought sounded like traffic outside my window....but when I got a grip on where I was i realised...silly billy thats a Waterfall....... Then I heard the birds chirping....one sounded almost exactly like a coo coo clock....and i heard the sound of the sheep bells as they walked the hills in the distance. Esther tells me that in the summer the sheep our set free to ... read more
