A Bridge Too Far
A huge part of many events that unfolded during operation Market Garden in Holland in World War two. The british were set to defend this bridge.. but failed against impossible circumstances. now named after the leader charged with this mission.. Frost. Geo: 52.308, 5.13412
So before I knew it, it was already my final full day in the Dutch countryside. Up fairly early, fed, and out. The first destination for Jan and I was the region of the famous "bridge too far" in arnhem, or today, known as the "Frost Bridge" after the British commander who valliantly fought to defend it.
The bridge was quite nice, but the nearby museum much more informative. The "Airborne" museum, was full of information regarding the region of Arnhem, and the Netherlands in the second world war. It was full of war artifacts and items, a video, and assorted info. From here, we returned for lunch, before heading out towards Alblasserdam to meet many of my relatives including; Betty, Jan & Lina Struik (and their daughter) and Dik. Our major outing was to the Kinderdijk, a famous site for a large amount of Dutch windmills (19 to be exact). Really nice views of the dutch countryside, and exploring inside one of the mills, was followed then by some exploration into my family roots. We went to a few villiages where my great, great grandparents lived, where my grandparents were born and lived, and where my dad lived as
