Today we had planned to visit Keukenhof, which is a massive garden an hour or so by public transport south west of Amsterdam. It is otherwise known as the Garden of Europe and is one of the largest flower gardens in the world. We had carefully plotted out our route there which involved the Metro, the train and then the final leg on a bus. Issy was very excited about this visit and had been drooling at the prospect of seeing endless fields of tulips and other flowers in a spectacular landscape setting. Unfortunately her drool all dried up quite suddenly a few days ago when she Googled Keukenhof and found that it’s only open for two months of the year, and July isn’t one of them. At least one of us is on the ball, ... read more

Through Liz Accident in Austria things did not work out exactly as planned. This is the reason you did not have many blogs anymore, there was just no time to do it. We spend a few days in Ermelo to see a of things we had planned. Liz cannot walk very good so the walks were out. We did see Schokland and how this all eventuated. Very interesting. From there we went back to Family in Brabant and had a good time and a place for Liz to see Doctors. The leg got infected but with the proper treatment it was under control. We had Liz Birthday there and Hugo Liz Brother had booked a beautiful tour with the Zilvermeeuw that takes you through the Biesbos. It was indeed a marvellous day. Next up was Zandvoort. ... read more

Hi again We spent a day in Zandvoort with the Lizzie & Michel Dijkstra and their children, Safira, Joancey and Vijay (very confusing when you also have P.J.!!) The town was swarming with weekend visitors attending the Mega-Market - so it was difficult to enjoy the usual ambience of the seaside town. But, we managed to eat some amazingly delicious fish and of course a few good helpings of Flemish Fries with mayonnaise, satay sauce and onions! This is called "Patatje Oorlog"or "Chip War". ... read more

Geo: 52.3718, 4.53025Fingers crossed we get to see some tulips today! We're heading down to the Keukenhof Gardens (Website). These gardens are a tourist destination! We passed a few random fields of flowers along the way. The car park was packed... I think there may be a lot of people here. Yep, thousands! You can't believe the number of people. And at the same time, you can't believe how beautiful this place is. Even with people from around the globe, the flowers were brilliant! We walked around these massive gardens. It would be easy to spend an entire weekend just here. Lily was a trooper. With all of the people and having to stick close. Good dog. Wanting more fields of flowers we went for a drive. In the area of the gardens are many of ... read more

We went to the Cologne and saw its giant cathedral and chocolate factory/museum. We learnt alot about the making of chocolate right through from growing the cocoa beans to the creation of the bar of chocolate. We revelled in the smells as we saw it being made, and i enjoyed watching the mechatronics engineers scratching their heads when the conveyor sysytem was misbehaving. Needless to say, we bought lots of chocolate at the shop afterwards. The day we left Cologne, it started snowing lightly. By the time we were 5 minutes out of town by train, everything was blanketed in snow. It turns out that the day before there had been a big snow storm and the route we took to Rotterdam had been blocked from the snow and nothing got through. So we were pretty ... read more
