Well the last 12 days sure were one of a kind! I spent them working as an information hostess for Audi at the AUTORAI 2005. I stood at the main desk in front of the stand with 2-3 other hostesses, trying to provide possible future Audi clients (and a lot of annoying little bratty kids) with the Audi information they needed. (aka give them brochures/posters, or point to one of the car advisors) Although I like to think I'm quite the Audi specialist now :) A lot of our time was spent rolling posters....one of the big favourite giveaways at our stand. We'd get people just wanting free stuff, not really caring what brand car stand they were at. I did make sure that everyone politely asked for any kind of giveaway. I held on to ... read more

Today I must sadly say goodbye to Europe. It has been a wonderful month and I have been so fortunate to reconnect with so many great friends, all of whom are welcome to visit anytime in the states. Thank you to everyone back home who kept in touch with me during this trip (even those who just commented on my fashion sense;-) ) Ciao... read more

As this is the first time i'm going to be traveling to many places all by myself i have decided to take a backpack instead of a suitcase ... of course way heavier than i thought, i put it on a chair and while i was balancing myself straight, my dog Poo (who happens to be a small calf ...) brushed by mi ... not used to having such a load on my back, i fell over and the backpack got pinned between the floor and myself ... i looked like a turtle, limbs flailing around ... with difficulty i turned over, somehow got myself up again (with the load) and walked straight to my suitcase with wheels ... and that's how i've decided to travel... read more

It is the night before the last day at work and things are really coming to an end here! All I have now fits into a suitcase and ultimately the rucksack I will be taking with me to South America. I still have a couple of weeks to go - the real adventure will be starting on Feb 21st when I fly into Rio…. ... read more

Arrived early today and got my Eurail Pass validated. It was easy to get to downtown Amsterdam where I stored my Backpack in a locker ($5.70 exact change only, I couldn't overpay and had to find someone to break a 1 euro coin, why didn't they just charge $6???) Wandered the streets, ate some simple meals and when the weather started to get rainy I hopped a train to Dordrecht to meet up with Brian and Ann my hosts for the first few days of my trip. I'll go explore more of Amsterdam tomorrow.... read more

Flew into Schiphol International Airport our luggage didnt make it - so we arranged to have it mailed to our hostel we then took a 20min train ride into Amsterdam's central station. As soon as we stepped outside of the central train station i was immediately satisfied by the sights. My first impressions were very positive (besides the bitter cold and drizzle) people everywhere bells in the distance - totally foreign and beautiful - very old and majestic looking architecture let us know we were very far from home. Pat, Zach and I were going through a serious bout of culture shock in the best way possible. The entire layout of the city is something nobody can really prepare for - a crecent moon shape intersected by numerous canals and thousands of narrow streets and ... read more

Day 0: Friday, November 26, 2004 Its just beginning to drizzle when the taxi reaches Heathrow airport. This is not good news for me. I have this terrible fear of flying and dark clouds, rains and wind only mean that the flight will be more than just bumpy. The lady at the bmi check-in desk assures me that the flight is only 45 minutes long and than it will be over before I know it. Some what convinced (though not totally) I board the flight. Take - off is normal and just as I begin to sip my glass of white wine, the plane jumps. Its turbulence and turbulence so bad that the pilot has to order the crew to belt up. This is not good and in the five minutes that the tossing around happens, ... read more

I had a great flight into Amsterdam, so excited that I could hardly sleep. I waited for Jason's train and had a snack from these nifty snack-wall machines. You put in one euro and the glass door opens revealing a tasty morsel that is something fried. Seeing a friend from home was a great feeling; I felt more comfortable and safe than in a while. We began our journey through this incredibly beautiful city with a visit to a "coffeeshop" called 420... yeah. We then wandered around Damrak Square which seems to be a touristy place. THe architecture in this city is its best feature, by far. Surrounding us always were unbelievable shopping centers that could pass for castles. These hover over quaint canals which reflect golden lights found all over the city. These canals also ... read more
