The original plan had to be changed. I had planed to first go to Sarajevo, than driving to Montenegro. Little problem, no rental company at Frankfurt Airport will rent you a car...to drive in Bosnia and Montenegro. You could still drive in these countries with your rented car....but then, no insurance....better not have any issue with the car. So I was not going to try my luck in Montenegro. Croatia and Montenegro have not always been the best neighbours in the world, so there doesn't seem to be that many public transport links bewteen the two countries. So we went on a tour group. Let me confirm...I'm not a fan of tour groups...and most of the time if I was in one in the past...it was as the tour guide! But we truly wanted to see ... read more

Decidimos nos ... read more

The bus from Dubrovnik to Kotor was a trip worth doing just for the views from the road teetering on the edge of the mountains along the coast of Croatia and then the breath taking and amazing bay of Kotor. We could have enjoyed it a bit more if our bus driver wasn't a crazy fool and didn't drive at ridiculous speeds around the hair pin bends on the cliffs over the sea. I think getting one of the many massive cruise ships to the bay would be the way to go as you would get to enjoy its splendor even more. As you get closer and closer to Kotor the mountains just keep getting bigger and steeper and the beauty is just out of this world. J and I couldn't believe our eyes and I ... read more

Move over Paris, Milan, London....Montenegro is one of the most fashionable and trendy places! More funny becasue we just didn't expect it...and a bit bummed we didn't get some pictures of the street fashion to prove it! We had heard and seen some pretty amazing things about Montenegro and were a bit bummed we would wizz through this gorgeous country! We were lucky and got a ride from Stjepo the guesthouse owner in Dubrovnik to the town just over the border in Montenegro. He was going to buy cigarettes becasue Croatian cigarettes cost 1euro in Montenegro as opposed to 3.50 euro in Croatia! The drive down the coast of Croatia into Montenegro is absolutely gorgeous...in particular the area between the borders of the 2 countries is breathtakingly beautiful! We said goodbye to our friendly host from ... read more

Montenegro & Kosovo, Sept. 25th - Sept. 30th, 2009 After finally getting off the beach in Dubrovnik, we were to head to the capitol of Montenegro, Podgorica. These plans changed once we heard about a little place called Kotor on the coast. Not wanting to miss what was supposed to be a really nice town, we decided to make a stop there on our way to Podgorica, and we were not disappointed. Kotor is another small little vacation town on the coast, but what makes it unique is St. John's Fortress. This massive fort is a continuation of the old city walls that are built right to the top of the mountain behind the town. It took us about an hour to climb to the top, and we were rewarded with an amazing view of the ... read more

After a good sleep in my womb-like deep-sea room on board Marco Polo, I had a Balkan breakfast of cold meats and cornflakes at 6am. The early mists were thinning as Croatia drew near, to all but lift when we were close enough to see her trademark orange tiled roofs. Sailing in between the close green-and-grey hills was a lovely experience. Even the previous evening's singers were silenced. I set off with Dr Jeremy to explore Dubrovnik old town, after checking the bus times to Kotor. I had decided to move on through Europe faster to see if I could use the gained time to see get to Istanbul via Gallipoli. Jeremy haggled with the apparently usual group of accommodation touts for his 13 euro room. The old couple he chose turned out to be extra-friendly. ... read more

it's my first trip abroad and i like kotor so much. i was here via a work camp named let it be clean. yes we cleaned kotor. we worked 5 hours per day (we collected garbage, cleaned school buildings, playgardens etc.) but it was my best holiday. i spent my best 15 days in kotor, because we went on the beach every afternoon and to the old town everynight. also we visited budva, peras, risan, cetinje and among them my favourite town is cetinje. we saw cetinje on a rainy day and it looked wonderful with some foggy weather. after those great 15 days we said goodbye to each other and went to podgorica by bus and then to belgrade by train. the railway was great. the villages near the road, rivers and forest was amazing. ... read more

It took about 4 buses but I eventually got to Kotor, a beautiful port town, that is a preserved museum town. It is a walled city, that as soon as you walk in you feel like you have been taken back a couple of hundred years. Of course the hundreds of extremely wealthy Russian and Serbian tourists soon ruin that dream. I stayed in a hostel within the town, and spent most of my time walking around enjoying the stunning surroundings with other travellers. It is a really lovely place, but was slightly ruined by all the tourists. Unlike Albanian I didn't get to talk to any 'real' people. I made friends with the guys who worked at the hostel but that was is it. Every other local was working in the town, and apparently there ... read more

DAY 104 What can we say about the 12 hour bus ride from Belgrade, Serbia to Kotor, Montenegro, other than we now have 101 ways to sleep on a bus seat. Angie's favorite one is to stretch our with her legs going across the aisle resting in the empty seat. No one needed the aisle anyway until the stops. Francine's most comfortable way to sleep was to curl up facing the seats and her head on her blow up pillow. The only problem was when the bus breaked and she nearly fell on the floor. During the night around 2am we stopped at the Serbian border, the border patrol kept looking and leafing through Angie's passport like something was missing. He said something to her in Serbian and Angie replied that she didn't understand. He just ... read more
