Our introduction in the rain Not a bad nights sleep. The few motor homes (two of us) were very quiet and the locals in the their beach huts spent the night quietly. The bells were on curfue after dark The only noise came from the unruly ducks who made such a noise all night probably mating and sleeping the day off quietly. And the sound of the trains thundering through the station in the town. I don’t know if the train stopped at Berges and if it did where it came from or went to. There was however a bus station next door which looked well used. We did not get any chance to update blogs as there was no WiFi on the site. Our French Toggle phone worked once we had changed the phone number to a French one. A bit of a palaver but it seemed to work OK.
The morning was grey as we ate breakfast. And then in came the rain which was by now gently falling as we blew the electrics. I couldn’t work out how to open the fuse box so gave up and moved our electric cable to another free one. Not really the thing to do but

A rainy motorway needs must sometimes . Madame could put it right later . The French post man turned up on his bicycle and cart and then we set off. Madame clocked us going as she came out to walk her cat on its lead and have her first cigarette of the day. We unlocked the gate, closed up after us and hit the road. After a few miles realised that Glenn had lost his prescription sunglasses. They must have dropped out of the door when we arrived last night. Looks like another visit to Specsavers when we get home!!!
We decided that we should probably have stopped on the aire at Bergues . It too was in the town and was free. We could have had the same facilities free of charge. Ah well we know for next time.
The journey was awful today. The rain beat a cadence on the van roof. It ran down the windows and it spoiled photographs as it dripped off the windows. It is difficult trying to photograph the countryside flying by when the windscreen wipers get in the way. Our journey through Belgium was probably more boring than usual as the sky

Another long and wet road - are we there yet? was grey and cloudy, the roads in poor condition. There were more pot holes than in the Peak District.
We stopped for lunch at a rest area and found free WiFi which gave us chance over dinner to check emails. A lovely luxury that we didn’t expect. Not much time to do anything else. I would have liked to have loaded the blog on but we had to be on our way. We ate beans on toast, emptied rubbish into the bins, discussed the attitude of other Europeans who leave their dogs to do their business and do not clear it up. We commented on the smell of urine around the area but could not decide if it were animal or human. Not a nice introduction to Belgium. The rest area was heaving with long distance lorry drivers from every conceivable country from Germany to Lithuania and from Belgium to Hungary. And the roads were much the same. Onto Luxembourg - a first for me but not for Glenn who had travelled through it many many times. The road conditions again poor and they didn’t pick up until we reached the German border. Luxembourg city didn’t look much either.

A short stop and welcome WiFi Not sure it’s a place I will come back to. Many motor homers make a beeline for it to buy the cheap petrol . I think it would take more than cheap petrol to get me back.
