Today is christmas eve and when Jonny and Joelle returned from Germany, we accompanied them to Echternach, a little village about 6km away from Mullerthal. Yesterday morning Jonny had bought these croissants that were filled with chocolate and it was so delicious that I just had to get more, so we went to look for a bakery that had some available, but as it was christmas eve most of the bakeries were already sold out or closed - just my luck😞

After a short tour of the village, we managed to find a bakery that had the last four panne au chocolaat and as it was christmas eve and they were about to close, they sold it to us for half the normal price😊 We visited a church in the village where christmas mass was going on - it was an evening mass for children which was a bit strange as in SA everybody goes to the same service but I think the midnight mass was a bit too late for kids, hence the evening mass.

Back at the Orr's place I made some dinner for me and the girls as the Orrs were going to Joelle's family for dinner and then just settled down to a lonely depressing night. Ben phoned again to check if we were OK and I told him the story and he wanted to know if he must come and pick us up to go back to Verdun to their home. He said we could spend christmas with them and then take a train directly to Stuttgart Germany, but I said no it was OK and that we would be fine, but I was not feeling fine at all!! That night when the Orrs returned, Joelle said that the plans for christmas had changed and that she and the kids would go to her family for lunch and Jonny would spend christmas day with us. She would prepare all of us a christmas breakfast and then we could all meet again for christmas dinner. Sigh...not what we had planned but something better than nothing!!
Christmas morning was actually quite pleasant. Good vibes all around and Jonny was so kind to let us phone home via skype. It was so good to speak to our family...more tears...sigh...our first christmas away from home😞
