Today the Orrs left for a concert in Germany. The kids were with Joelle's parents. We were alone in the house with Oonagh their big beautiful dog who we had to take out three times a day to do her business. Jonny wrote down the bus number and the directions into Luxemboug City as we wanted to spend the day touring the city. They also said we could use whatever groceries we wanted from the cupboards and we could also do our laundry, but darling Ben had already done all our laundry so now we only had clean clothes. The girls wanted to stay at home - Wi-Fi again, but I insisted we go into the city. The Orrs also said that they were not going to be able to do the christmas dinner thing as there were some issues with Joelle's family being unable to attend and that they would be going for dinner on christmas eve and for christmas lunch to Joelle's family, but we could use the house and invite whomever we wanted. Gosh who did know in Luxembourg??!! and I so did not want to be alone for christmas. At home we always had a big family
lunch at my house for christmas and to think we were going to be alone here in this foreign country so far away from home was just too depressing. Last night when Ben phoned to find out if we were OK, I asssured him we were fine and now this!! Last night we had gone with Jonny to the supermarket and I bought a whole lot of groceries for the dinner. Then I had an idea, I would phone Ben and his family to join us for christmas here in Luxembourg. Jonny said they could sleep over as there was plenty of space. Ben was excited, but he had to run it by Isa first. He said he would call me later. I was excited, but not for long as Isa did not think it was feasible to drive so far in the snow just for one night, so there goes that. That first night we were alone it was actually quite nice, but the next night, christmas eve, was awful. I cried a lot that night, missing my family back home and also feeling really shitty wondering how the girls felt and - tomorrow christmas day and we were
going to be alone again😞 I posted a message on CS inviting any CSers in the area to join us for dinner, but I think it was too short notice. I did get one invite to join a CSer and her family for their dinner but although Jonny left the keys to his car, I could not drive in SA let alone in a snowy foreign place.
Anyways back to Luxemboug city. It was so beautiful an absolutely incredible place - a city of contrasts the old city linked to the new city by hundreds of bridges a panoramic paradise. The city centre occupies a picturesque spot high up on precipitious cliffs that drop into narrow valleys of the two rivers that flow through the city. The deep gorges cut by the rivers are spanned by many bridges and viaducts. The city is not large but its layout is complex as it is set on several levels straddling hills and dropping into two gorges. There are lots of parks, forested areas and large tracts of farmland that lie within the city limit. Luexmbourg is ruled by the Grand Duchy and it is an international financial metropolis. It was really
unusual - like getting the best of both worlds, the concrete modern world as well as the beautiful nature.
The shopping here was great too. We found so many things on special (especially all the Chanel perfumes) as it was only a day away from christmas. The girls obviously wanted to stay longer in the city but it was getting dark and Jonny did say that the last bus left at 6pm so we had to be heading back to the house, but trying to find the right bus was just the hardest thing.
