Rügen II Wanderer Yes, again Rügen, again a dream land. This time – with more wide chronological swing. And just as an annex, appendix, reminder. At first, a paysage as seen and painted by Caspar David Friedrich (Kreidefelsen auf Rügen / Chalk cliffs on Rügen, ~ 1818). All fine traced, especially in the romantic wishful branch of leaves with the almost Art Nouveau motifs and winding. Also the characters – well, not really travellers, not exactly epicurians, picnic participants. The curious elderly Mr. as if wanting to look down, as if not to… Beautiful, even a bit too much. To evaluate painting as evidence of its age and the typical expression – that can I understand and support, to love and to take close to the heart – that’s not very likely …url=http://www.norsenature.com/wp-content/uploads ... read more

Caspar David Friedrich Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer / The Wanderer above the See and Fog (1818) I call myself – Wanderer. Right – it’s a song by Franz Schubert: Der Wanderer / The Wanderer (Georg Philipp Schmidt von Lübeck in my poor nonpoetical translation) – I come from the mountains, It steams the valley, roars the sea. I wander silent, joyless, sad And always sigh and ask – o, where? The sun seems here so rough, so cold, The flowers faded, the life – too old, And what they say, is empty sound; I am a stranger everywhere. Where are you, my beloved land? Sought, yearned after, never seen! That land where hope is fresh and green, That land where all my ros... read more

Wanderer As already written (in the Post The Swan of Tuonela) such symbolic signs have been made and seen much, much earlier, in ancient times (presumable Later Neolithyc) as stone forgings, carvings, drawings (petroglyphs). A number of them occurr in a beautiful shore of the nordic lake. It’s itself again a sign of Nordic Nature. Finnish it is called Ääninen / Äänisjärvi, Karelian Oniegu / Oniegu-järve, Veps Anin / Änižjärv, but Russian Onega / Onego, Onežskoe Ozero (Lake Onega / Onego, Onezhskoe lake, nowadays that lake belongs to Russia). These ancient signs are visible on lake’s shore rocks and islands. But the lake seems to be as ever: wast, mainly calm, with his own life and own fate…url=htt... read more

Wanderer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957): Tuonela, the land of death, the hell of Finnish mythology, is surrounded by a large river with black waters and a rapid current on which the Swan of Tuonela floats majestically, singing. Finnish and Karelian mythology is beautiful and terrible. One of the most original characters there is the Swan of Tuonela / Tuonelan joutseno. It is rarely directly involved in stories, and serves more as a symbolic figure. It is a holy totem animal and the bird of the soul to Karelians. Swan is marked with a special meaning and role of duality, as a part of the kingdom of Death. Black swan glides along the Dead River Tuoni waters, sad singing its eternal an... read more

Wanderer Pace, pace, pace – Amneris sings at the end of the opera Aida. It’s a peace from all the passions, fights, contradictions in her soul and in this opera’s story. It’s a peace full of tragedy, but nevertheless it is a solution. Pace, pace, pace … Just peace is peculiar for lakes – in the highest limit between all waters in the free nature. Yet it is an absolutely different kind of peace – self-confident, self-respecting, higher and stronger than even time is. In immemorial ancient times, legends and tales tell lakes had flown through the air and only then, when someone called them right they fell down and stayed there. It’s not known how was it really if someone hit the right word at a slope or hillside … But Latvian lakes names ... read more

Photo Andres Colmenares Severe, long-term water tumbled stones and a layer of smaller stones, the harsh minimalism, a real coldness blows to everyone. But nearby – a real orgy of color, a wide range of plants already in atmosphere of Indian summer, incredible motifs arranged in a carpet. It is Rügen, German island in the Baltic Sea. Is Rügen located in the north? Well, ... read more

Wanderer Fish oil – Horror of my childhood. It was around 1950 – 1952, we lived modestly, sometimes having trouble even with bread. Really this was because of serious flooding – a little town Jēkabpils (Germ. Jakobstadt) was cut off from the outside world, but ended in flour. At that time every morning to all of us three children after breakfast before going to school was to drink fish oil, a whole tablespoon. Disgusting! We did even realize that it is necessary for us, and my mother’s supervision (as it was in case of Tom Sawyer and Aunt Polly) was not required. But the oil was so disgusting and repugnant, that each time I was afraid to induce vomiting. Of course, it was already known and verified that the ea... read more

Wanderer What is it? It is a painting by Madara Gulbis Sarkanās klintis / Red Cliffs (2004). It is not known exactly which cliffs have given impetus to the artwork, because there are several or even many of the sandstone cliffs with that name in Latvia. Let’s see how does in reality looks for example Red Cliff on Salaca River bank near the small provincial town Ainaži in the very North of Latvia (Called also Pietrags or Mačperu rocks). How can get there? The easiest – by boat. Though about the boating an... read more

Wanderer I’ve never driven through such a rushing waters and boats like these were not known in my time. The more interesting for me to look, as it is now. And see also what and how our travellers have found and fixed. Both ourselves and especially all around themselves: nature, animals, not so often – other people. Therefore, this is not reportage, but I just created a mosaic of the pictures (www.laivas.lv). They are from different groups and different journeys and a succession is not really respected. At the selection I focus mainly on nature. For those who want to see the complete work more deep and more clearly, I suggest to go to www.laivas.lv and there’s everything (and more) and can be found to identify, explore and eval... read more

People learned to sell everything. Already a long time ago began trading with the soul. This motif appears virtually in any folklore: give away your soul (now or later, 'later' – this is a wonderful marketing trick) and then you’ll get everything you want … Today, this sale has become more sophisticated: to sale the rain (Richard Nash), sale the laughter (James Krüss), sell everything. Yes, and why to hide this subject – people have long been selling (and buying) themselves, their flesh, their body. Of course you may say: it's their beauty, strength, agility, skills, but it does not change anything. Sold! The ... read more
