We went back up the escalators for another stroll around Spoleto and had a go on the series of six moving underground pavements. Then we drove just outside town to visit the 13th century Chiesa di San Petro which was being refurbished during our last visit.

After lunch we went north 20k to the hill top town of Trevi which had impressed us as we drove past it the previous day. The beautiful 5k drive through olive tree groves up to the camperstop gave us amazing but different views of the town as we navigated each hairpin. Wendy was not feeling well when we arrived, so I went into the historic centre and discovered that a weekend festival of various competitions was due to start later.

The evening’s entertainment was a drum band duel held in the central piazza between each of the three areas of the town. They had names but as far as we were concerned they were dressed in yellow, blue and red. The yellow band won.
