What a day! This morning as a group, we went to Assisi, Italy. What a beautiful town. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there from Rome, which was nice because I got some sleep.
We had to go up a steep hill, because the town is on the hill overlooking the beautiful countryside. First stop was the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. This has been one of my favorite churches that I have seen in Italy. Then, we had free time to explore the city. A group of us ended up just walking the (up hill) streets going into the shops and food places.
For lunch, we stopped at I Monaci. It was good and cheap, but nothing to brag about. I have learned while traveling outside of Rome, there are more nut-based dishes, so good thing I have my translation cards to give to the waiters. Sadly, I have had to change my order because they think my allergy includes sesame seeds, but it does not.
We continued to wander and found more churches tucked away. Our time in Assisi was short and sweet, and it felt like walking through a fairytale or
movie set. The people were so kind and prideful about their artwork and their town.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Hosteria del Moro. This restaurant was recommended by many people because it is 20€ for a full course meal and unlimited water and wine. The appetizers came first. There was calamari, bruschetta, caprese, grilled vegetables, and a fried meat ball of some sorts. Then came our pasta and chicken parmesan. Lastly, the tiramisu. All for 20€!! The food was so good, but it was easy to fill up on the appetizers!
