So, I had typed out this REALLY long post, and the internet decided to crap out on me the other night! Talk about annoying! Now I'll attempt to re-type as much of it as I can recall! It's been a while, so I've done a lot! We went to the Academia building and saw the David! I was expecting maybe a six foot statue. No! This thing is over 17 feet tall! It was HUGE! We also did a quick run through artwork from the 12th century through the 17th. It was a bit overwhelming! Also, we got to see Michelangelo's "Prisoners." They call them this because the people seem to be stuck in the stone, and trying to break free. Siena was this past weekend too! We took a trian for about an hour and a half and got into Siena. It was just Jessica, Rachel, and I and I must say that I was rather proud of our navigational skills! I know I'm usually pretty good at getting lost, but for a city made up of strange roads that don't run parallel, I was rather proud! St. Catherine's home was beautiful, and has now been turned into a church.
Well, it's sort of two chapels across from eachother, with another small chapel in what used to be her bedroom. We went to see her finger and head at St. Dominic's which was interesting to say the least. Her finger looks normal, just a little small and shrivelled up. Her head looks small as well, but she's missing a few teeth which makes her look pretty creepy! They also had the chains that she used to discipline herself with. The stained glass over the altar in that church was BEAUTIFUL and I don't think my pictures do it justice! Last week it rained for nearly the entire week! It didn't quit raining until Friday morning just before we left for Siena! My quiz last week, went a LITTLE better then the first. I got an 84%, which moved me up to a whopping C+. 😞 I'm gonna try to argue with the director of the school here though, because I missed ONE thing, but I did it a couple of times (like it was all on one section). So I'm going to try and appeal it. And go figure, the girl who sat next to me got an A! At
least I know who to study with right? What else...? We paid 10 euro and got into ALL of the museums and major churches in Sienna, which was a great price! The main cathedral was different because there was even MORE detail paid to the floors then I have seen in any other church. Oh, in the cathedral's museum I stumbled across a small stairway and we decided to explore. We weren't entirely sure if we were even allowed to be on it, but we followed this tiny, narrow, spiral staircase up to the top of the building where we found an amazing view of the city! And just when we thought it didn't get any better, we realized it went up even further. I had to forget about my fear of heights and small spaces because it was just too cool to pass up! We got lost (and by that I mean that we knew where we were, but couldn't find this particular church) so we ended up walking the ENTIRE city of Siena! We eventually found it, but I think my feet were about to fall off by that point! After Siena, we came back and grabbed a
pizza. We didn't even know what was going to be on it, but we ordered the "casa," or the house pizza. It turns out they serve artichokes, olives, mushrooms, eggs, and little hot dogs on top of that pizza. WEIRD! Today we went in a museum, which was alright. And we also talked some more about Ponte Vecchio. Oh, and we went to Spirito Sancto church. It's been a long day! We started with our 3 hour tour of the city, came back and had lunch, then went right into class, and then gave presentations until dinner. After dinner we had an hour and a half break and then had to go watch a movie for class. I can't remember the name of it, but that's not too important because it was TERRIBLE! Oh, yesterday's dinner was interesting! We were all sooo hungry and dinner was some nasty slop (I kid you not, it looks like what they feed pigs) and horse meat. Needless to say, a few of us headed to McDonalds! I gave my art presentation today, which was my midterm! I think it went well! And Thursday is the Italian midterm! :-/ I'm not so psyched about
that one! It's not exactly helpful when you study your butt off, only to get a C+ on the quiz either! That's all that I can think of for now! Pictures will be posted soon!!
